Last week, the 2017 Presidential Inaugural Subcommittees announced the Joint Transportation Plan for the 58th Presidential Inauguration. Events and activities celebrating the Inauguration, a designated National Special Security Event, will take place from Thursday, January 19 to Saturday, January 21, 2017.
This Transportation Plan provides the general outlines for vehicular restricted zones, road closures, charter vehicles, public transportation and pedestrian routes. Additional information is available online for residents of the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland, as well as for charter operators, through the websites listed at the end of this plan. Additions to this plan may be made prior to the Inaugural and will be updated accordingly. Specific questions regarding this transportation plan should be directed to the participating agencies as identified.
Security and transportation plans for the 2017 Inauguration were developed by a partnership of local, state and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies, including the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Virginia State Police, the Maryland Department of Transportation, the United States Secret Service, the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the United States Capitol Police and the United States Park Police.
Road closures on Capitol Hill will be instituted by the U.S. Capitol Police in cooperation with the Metropolitan Police Department. Vehicle traffic restricted to authorized vehicles only with proper vehicle placard. No public parking will be available.
The following street closures will go into effect starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday, January 19 (in addition to roads regularly restricted on Capitol Grounds):
Washington Ave SW from C St. SW to Independence Ave SW (Northbound Only)
East Capitol St. from First St to Second St.
In addition to the earlier closures, the following street closures will go into effect starting at 11:00 pm on Thursday, January 19 (in addition to roads regularly restricted on Capitol Grounds):

Metro is planning a major weekend work project on the Orange/Silver/Blue lines over the weekend of Saturday, February 4, and Sunday, February 5, 2017.
In order to accommodate maintenance work, free shuttle buses will replace all trains between Foggy Bottom and Eastern Market stations on both days. Six stations will be closed: Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, Federal Center SW and Capitol South. In addition, the lower level platforms will be closed at Metro Center and L'Enfant Plaza. Customers traveling through the affected area should allow up to 45 minutes of additional travel time.
Multiple Metro crews will perform work in the zone, including installation of cell phone and radio infrastructure to support improved communication in tunnels, fixing displaced ceiling tiles, and conventional track improvements to rails, fasteners, insulators and other components.
Additional details about Metro service for this weekend will be provided by January 21, 2017.
As we make our way through this winter season, here is a friendly reminder for businesses regarding the the BID's snow removal policy:
In the event of a snowstorm, businesses are responsible for clearing snow from the sidewalks outside of their establishments. The BID only clears snow from handicap ramps, bus stops and fire hydrants within our boundaries.

Snow Tips from DPW and DDOT:
Clear your sidewalks of snow and ice within eight hours following the end of a snow/ice storm.
Help your elderly or disabled neighbors remove snow from steps and sidewalks.
Please make sure that you shovel safely. Snow is very heavy, especially when wet. Individuals with health problems should err on the side of caution and delegate the task to someone else.
Use caution when walking on icy or snow covered sidewalks. Avoid walking in the street.
Wear light-colored or reflective clothing when walking at night.
When you're driving during inclement weather or following a storm, watch for pedestrians walking in the roadway. Allow extra stopping distance at intersections and crosswalks.

The new terms of office start in March 2017.
Qualifications & Term of Office: All members of the Board of Directors (other than Appointed Directors) shall be Members, or partners, officers, directors, trustees, agents or employees of Members (property owners or tenants). Elected members serve 3 year terms and can be re-elected an unlimited number of times. No Member may be elected to or may serve on the Board of Directors if they are delinquent by more than sixty (60) days in the payment of any financial obligation to the Corporation.
Save the Date! The BID will host our 2017 Annual Membership Breakfast Meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 8:00AM at Hill Center (921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE). The meeting will include a breakfast buffet.
The Annual Meeting allows all BID Members (commercial property owners and tenants) to elect new members of the Board of Directors or reelect those whose terms have expired.
