A way out of the fans maze?
Achieving an even greenhouse climate is the cornerstone of Next Generation Growing (NGG), but growers are often bewildered by conflicting advice from consultants, air treatment and fan manufacturers and the wide range of equipment available.
Should a grower invest in air treatment bringing in fresh air from outside? If so which system will suit best? Is heat recovery a good investment? Air tubes under the crop? Above the crop? Horizontal fans? Vertical fans?

Priva/Grodan seminar

Priva, Grodan and Groen Agro recently published a comprehensive irrigation guide entitled Best Practice Guidelines for Greenhouse Water Management, a comprehensive guide to everything growers need to know about crop production in substrate for both edibles and soft fruit.

Scottish toms revival
Grower JIm Shanks is singlehandedly reviving commercial tomato growing in the Scottish Borders. The first plants for his new 16,000 sq metre Certhon house arrived on January 12th.
The state of the art structure is 6m to the gutter, fitted with diffuse glass, Svensson Luxous 1347 thermal screens and side screens. Heat is provided by two biomass boilers.
Everything is controlled by a Priva Connext computer, with Priva Nutriflex fertiliser unit and Vialux M-Line UV for sterilisation of the recycled drainwater.
