Lunar New Year Festival

The Portland Chinatown History Foundation located at 127 NW Third Avenue will kick off the Lunar New Year with an old time Dragon Dance at 11:00 AM on Sunday, January 29. The loud crackling of strings of firecrackers hung from the Tuck Lung building balcony at NW 4th and Davis will be immediately followed by the Dragon and Lion Dance parade through Chinatown, stopping at  restaurants and stores to “pluck the green” for good luck.

In addition to community sponsors, we are looking for neighborhood volunteers who would like to help dance the 100 foot long dragon down NW 3rd Avenue to Jefferson Street and west to the Oregon Historical Society at Jefferson and Park. Volunteers will be given a T shirt and lunch and an invitation to enjoy the afternoon festivities. There will be one practice the week before the event.
