The CMA is recruiting Peer Review Committee volunteers to evaluate applications submitted to the 2017-18 Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations (YCW-HO) program, a youth employment initiative of the Department of Canadian Heritage. The Virtual Museum of Canada is currently inviting heritage organizations across the country to submit a proposal as part of the Community Stories Investment Program. If you’re looking for more information on the program and how to develop a strong proposal, watch our new videos

CCI Archaeological Conservation Services

CCI is currently accepting requests for archaeological conservation treatments for 2017–2018. This call includes requests for pre- and post-excavation archaeology services as well as requests for conservation field services. Requests must be received no later than February 16, 2017. February 3: Deadline for Canada's Volunteer Awards nominations

During this celebration year, it is important to acknowledge that our country would not be the same without the work of volunteers. We would like to recognize the important work of volunteers across the country. Learn more and submit a nomination here.

February 3: Application deadline to be considered for CCI Facility Assessment Services between April 2017 and March 2018

CCI experts provide advice on storage, display and exhibition conditions, security and fire prevention measures, the museum environment, lighting and pest control. Advisory services for capital projects for new collection facilities or major renovations are also available through this service. Apply here.

National Cost-Sharing Program for Heritage Places

Deadline is February 13, 2017. The Guidelines and Application Forms are now available for funding in 2017-18 under the National Cost-Sharing Program for Heritage Places. More information.
 

Community Fund for Canada's 150th

Distribute small grants through community foundations to locally-led projects that build community, inspire a deeper understanding of Canada. Read more.

SCAA Digital Preservation Workshop 

Any person working in an institution with concerns about preserving collections digitally or cataloguing “born-digital” collections, be they archival or museum in nature, should consider attending this workshop. More information.

New CCI Web Resource: Caring for Plastics and Rubber

Caring for Plastics and Rubber presents key aspects of managing the care of plastic and rubber objects in heritage collections based on the principles of preventive conservation and risk management. It outlines the qualities and characteristics of different types of plastic and rubber and the causes of damage to objects composed of these materials. It also provides examples of preventive conservation practice.

UVic Exhibition Fabrication Workshop

March 16-18, 2017. This workshop provides museum professionals with the tools needed to create or update exhibition spaces, keeping in mind the tight resources and timelines faced by most cultural institutions today. More information.

UVic Exhibition Design and Installation Course

March 20-25, 2017. This intensive course examines the entire exhibition planning sequence: creating interpretive exhibitions that encourage museum visitors’ understanding, participation and emotional engagement. More information.

January 20, 2017 deadline: Apply for CCI Regional Workshop

CCI is pleased to invite eligible institutions and associations to submit an application to host one of CCI's 16 regional workshops between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018. The cost to host a workshop is $750 CAN.

January 24, 2017 registration deadline for MOOC Reconciliation through Indigenous Education

UBC is offering this 6 week online course that is free to audit. It is designed to help participants "enhance understanding and knowledge of practices that advance reconcilliation." More information.
