Welcome to 2017!
We start every new year with great anticipation, hope and excitement. 2017 is no different. LDV Winery is looking forward to our new calendar of events, upcoming wine releases, vibrant partnerships with resorts and restaurants, and continuing to find ways to connect with our customers. One such way is our monthly Vineyard to Table Supper Club that kicks off February 7 at the Wine Gallery. Curt and Peggy will host a three-course, wine inspired supper served family-style for 20 friends. Make a reservation soon.
Additionally, we have expanded our Wine Appreciation Workshop series as well as Corks, Crafts, + Wine. We plan to hold more events at the Vineyard/Winery in the Chiricahua Mountain Foothills over the summer when the weather is perfect and the vineyard is in full production mode! LDV Sky Islander Wine Club
Our goal has been to have 1,000 friends that love and support LDV Winery. Our Sky Islander Wine Club is well on its way to helping us connect with our friends while allowing us to present our estate wines to members. We love the fact that our members have not only connected with us but have become friends with each other through the years. Making these connections is a fundamental LDV Winery mission.
It is easy and free to join. You receive two wine packages a year (Spring and Fall) at your club level discounted rate that also includes wine information and pairing recipe. Members also receive free tasting coupons for the Wine Gallery, wine discounts, discounted event participation, special club events, and behind the cellar door access.

Curt in the Dirt
Winter is in full swing at LDV. After a very mild fall that had the vines remaining green into November, winter dormancy has taken place and pruning is about to begin in January and carry over into February. Winter pruning is an important part of vineyard management. We changed our pruning techniques in 2016 to address in-season vineyard work and heavy fruit set. It resulted in a considerably lower yield this past harvest but will be good for the long-term viability of the vines. Back to full strength this year!
Before the cold weather set in, we went through the entire vineyard and replaced any leaky or damaged irrigation components and cleaned and flushed all lines. It is important to do this before cold weather because you get very wet!
Winery Update - Wine Release Party
The winery is full, going four high with barrel storage. We have wine in the winery that has been aging up to three years and we will be bottling it soon. The recently bottled 2013 Sky Island Petite Sirah will be released January 27. We have planned a release party at the Wine Gallery from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. All of LDV’s Sky Island wine series are not influenced by oak. This Petite Sirah has been aged 33 months in neutral oak to showcase LDV grapes unique flavor characteristics. The 2013 Sky Island Petite Sirah is a full-bodied wine of 83% Petite Sirah and 17% Syrah. We produced 250 cases and the retail price is $32. Light the grill and get those t-bone steaks seasoned to enjoy with this wine!
Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day is for lovers – that is lovers of wine! There are a few seats still available for the Seventh Annual LDV Valentine’s Day Winemaker Dinner hosted by Peggy and Curt at their Fountain Hills home. It is Tuesday February 14 starting with Amuse Bouche and Sparkling Wine Reception at 5:30 PM with the four-course dinner beginning at 6:00 PM.

Wine Appreciation Workshop Series - Register Now
LDV has created a year-long Wine Appreciation monthly series starting February 12 with Wine + Chocolate just in time for Valentine’s Day. For workshop descriptions view the complete Wine Appreciation Workshop Series Handout These workshops are a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon from 5:00 – 6:30 PM before heading off to dinner. Cost is $35 per person or $65 per couple (includes materials, little bites/appetizers, and glass of wine). For more information and to register call the Wine Gallery at 480.664.4822.
