Welcome Back
We would like to welcome all children back and  wish all parents and carers a Happy New Year. We have had a fantastic 1st week where children have been learning from 9am on Tuesday morning . We are delighted to be back in the refurbished building  and are enjoying the mix of old and new Fox. We have managed to timetable lunches and break times to enable children to have maximum playground space and this is working very well.

Please can I remind parents that children are not allowed jewellery in schools and if worn it will be confiscated. We also don't want children to bring in toys, trading cards and their own pencil / colouring cases.

Finally, we are asking that children bring only a book bag for their reading book and homework  and a small re-usable plastic bag / zip wallet for their packed lunch and snack. We have just ordered children's book bags which will be for sale in the office shortly. The big rucksacks take up too much space in the coat cupboards and encourage children to bring in unwanted items.

Looking forward, we hope all children will revert to a delicious Nina cooked school lunch and we hope to be able to provide all children with a healthy snack at break time.

I know many children are attached to their rucksack but ask that you support the school in this decision.

I hope that parents and carers who visited the school today like the building and are happy with the design and finish. There is still much work to do, including adding colour to the building through the children's work, which I think will only improve an already impressive building.

St Anne's Update

Year 1 have had a fantastic first week at Fox at St Anne’s! The children have shown excellent behaviour on the coaches and have enjoyed their journey to and from school. We even had some Christmas song on our first journey to St Anne’s! The children love their new playground and have enjoyed playing Hockey at the West Way.

This week in Literacy the children have started a new unit of work on The Gruffalo. The children acted out the story using beautiful story telling language. We can’t wait to see their writing next week.

In maths the children have impressed us with their number bond knowledge. They have been applying what they know to solve tricky equations and have used the bead string to check their answers.

In Religious Education we have been looking at our wonderful world and thought about how the world was created. Here are some of the children’s ideas.  “I think Christian people think the world was created by God.” “I think there was a big bang and two rocks crashed together!”

Year 2 have had a great start to the Spring term. In Numeracy, we have been exploring calculation strategies in a variety of problem solving activities. The children have had a lot of fun today, working out the mystery function of our class function machine and enjoyed challenging their partners with their own mystery function! In literacy, we have begun our new topic on Roald Dahl and the children have really enjoyed learning lots of interesting facts about this incredible author, as well as enjoying hearing Roald Dahl's story of 'Fantastic Mr Fox'.

Year 2 have been very welcoming to the Year 1 children and have done a good job at making them feel at home here!

Parent Mindfulness Workshop
Mindfulness is the practice of non-judgmentally paying attention to your thoughts, feelings and body sensations in the present moment. Some benefits of mindfulness are: a greater sense of calm and clarity, the ability to manage stressful situations and an increased enthusiasm and appreciation for life. We have been teaching mindfulness at Fox for the last three years and the children have been responding really well to the sessions and applying mindfulness both in and out of the classroom.

Come along to an Introduction to Mindfulness Session for Parents/Carers on Tue 7th February at 9.00 to hear about some of the background and research around mindfulness, to explore the mindfulness curriculum followed at Fox and to have an experiential taste of a few mindfulness practices yourself.
Weekly Theme: World Braille Day

The 4th of January was World Braille Day, as it is the birthday of Louis Braille, the Frenchman who invented the code in 1821. Braille helps to provide equal opportunity for many blind people worldwide. Braille is a system of touch reading and writing in which raised dots represent the letters of the alphabet and numbers, as well as music notes and symbols.
You can even have a go at writing your own name in Braille.
