It's easier than ever for artists to self record and distribute, but a consequence of fragmentation is only one place can drive the needle, Pop in a golden age (having decisively taken over Coachella). A second order effect is that breakouts come in songs, not artists. Look for this to further erode the band / album tradition.

Anyone looking for respite from the bitter politics of 2016 can keep waiting. The divisions sown have metastasized through broader culture writ large, case in point the Coachella boycott. Expect this to become the norm, as it takes minutes not hours to mobilize a passionate mob.

Big tech (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Netflix) might succeed in toppling some entrenched players in the US economy. Telcos and utilities (though we doubt many tears will be shed over their demise), media giants, retailers, the service sector are all in the cross hairs. Expect a boon for consumers (users). Oh, and Twitter, we love you. Here's a plan to right the ship in 2017.
