WHAT’S 2016 GOT TO DO WITH IT?

By the end of last year 2016 had become a spectre even the best memes of our generation would struggle to encapsulate. But cynicism aside, it wasn’t all bad. If you spent any of it at Village Underground, you will have spotted the ascension of some of the most promising artists anyone can lay their hands on.

Over on our new site we've been asking VU team members what their unmissable moments were. We discuss Death Grips, Alicia Keys, James Blake, Ed Harcourt, a Nao proposal, the best Superstitions and Dan Deacon’s Convergence dance-off, as well as what we’re already eyeing up in 2017. Come and reminiscence with us.

Âme

ÂME 2 ÂME

FRI 17 FEB

Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann don’t deal in nostalgia. You won’t find either of the duo listening to the cooing sound of member berries in their free time. Âme’s obsession is with the future. Since 2003, they’ve been busy penning songs to counter everything they didn’t hear in the club, combining classy deep house with floor-filling elements and conceptual conceits.

Now members of the prestigious Innervisions family, they remain as distinguished as their sound, and as distinct in their outlook today as they were over a decade ago. On Friday 17th February they’ll head to Superstition for an all-night-long takeover, which will see the duo DJing and performing live. Make sure you catch them.

Manchester’s one to watch, Karma Kid, heads the night, alongside Zimmer’s enticing mix of West Coast feel-good vibes and Parisian chic, Fono, Tkay Maidza (live) and Young Franco. They’ll be packing out the stage on Saturday 11th February - all they ask is that you bring the love.
