Rosehips in the Garden
Opportunities for people with gardening and maintenance skills:

Would you enjoy being part of the team that makes Barracks Lane Garden such a thriving community venue?  We are running a project at the garden to encourage all members of the community - both young and old, to enjoy this lovely space and to enjoy being part of a social gardening group.

We are inviting applications for two contracts to support this project: a 15 day gardening contract and an 8 day maintenance / handy person contract.   All work will take place at the garden on Saturdays between March and October 2017.  Details are in the resources section of the  website http://www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk/resources.php

Please spread the word to anyone who may be interested.  The trustees are looking forward to hearing from all suitable applicants.  Deadline for applications (letter and CV): January 31st 2017
Interviews will be held on February 11th  2017
Fee offered:  £105 per day.

Chanting in the cabin
Groups meeting at the garden in 2017

Details of groups who meet regularly at the garden are on the website http://www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk/groups.php.  In January we have chanting in the cabin, crafting sessions with the Quiltbag group, weekly sessions with the Name It!  youth group and a new series of Qigong for health and well-being starting on January 12th.

Remember the garden in the winter makes a lovely venue for your own course, event or party with a wood burner making the cabin very cosy.   You can book the garden all the year around.  Please note that the garden is  non alcohol venue. Booking information at:    http://www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk

Review and Planning for 2017 - Can you help us make the garden even better for everyone to enjoy?

In January, we (the trustees of the garden) will be holding a review and planning meeting to focus on what we would like to do in 2017 and beyond.  We will be looking at issues under a number of heading including:
What physical improvements need to be made to the garden which will benefit all visitors?
How can we ensure that we have enough income to meet the core costs of running the garden now and in the future?
What do we need to do to keep running our events programme, deliver existing projects and plan for new ones?
Can we improve communications and outreach?
How can we support and improve our volunteer programme?
How can we improve governance?
We welcome input from everyone.  If you have any ideas, thoughts, comment or suggestions you would like to share, please email or phone them through to us.  There is also a suggestions box in the garden.  Please get in touch by January 17th 2017.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Our Heritage of Common Plants
Heritage of Common Plants project - have you viewed our lovely panels?

We have come to the end of our wonderful Heritage of Common Plants project which ran during 2016.  Highlights of the project were documented through photographs and text and displayed on six panels which are hung in the cabin.  You can also view them via the website.  http://www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk/resources.php
Do take a look - they are very special.  A big thank you to The Nature Effect http://thenatureeffect.co.uk/ whose members were key in making the project such a sucess.  Thank you all.
