Parishioner to Servant
"Lift up your eyes all around, and see;
they all gather together, they come to you;
your sons shall come from afar,
and your daughters shall be carried on the hip."
Isaiah 60:4
Today we celebrate the revelation of God to the gentiles. On the church calendar the day is called Epiphany. The wise men or magi came to see the Christ child in Bethlehem by following a star. They bowed down and paid homage to him as they entered the home.
They knew they were in the midst of greatness but I don't know how much they understood. Their visit is a beginning fulfillment of the verse above from the prophet Isaiah. Initial fulfillment of this prophecy took place when the Jews settled back in their land after being in exile. Some people of the land joined with them but not enough to be the final fulfillment of this prophecy.
It points to the church and people from all nations coming to Christ in faith. We have seen a great light and the light is Jesus. Today we celebrate that God is a God who reveals Himself to us and makes Himself known. He is glorified as each person turns in faith and comes into the light.
We have no central location for the people of God to come together now as in days of old. We now find our central location to be in Christ by faith alone. This is where the church finds her unity. Now as people of the light we reflect that light to the world and make Him known. Shine the light!
