The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program is now accepting applications for the 2017 program. Please encourage your
students to apply online no later than March 9 at the SURF website:
www.purdue.edu/surf/programs/campus .
SURF is an opportunity for undergraduates to gain research experience under the guidance of a Purdue professor and graduate student. A primary goal of SURF is to expose top undergraduate students to research with the objective of encouraging them to attend graduate school. The structured nature of the program supports the students through the research process and concludes with a formal presentation of their summer research.
The 2017 program dates are May 22 – August 4.
SURF participants will receive
$5100 for the 11-week program while conducting research activities 40 hours per week. The program continues to use a funding model that splits the student’s pay equally between the professor, the professor’s school, and the professor’s college. This year,
each entity will provide $1700 per student.Faculty must contact their individual school regarding commitments for 2017.
As in previous years, professors may either identify an individual student for a specific project, OR post a research project on the SURF website and review the pool of applicants interested in their project. Please
post your available project as soon as possible but no later than mid-February.
SURF is open to undergraduate students enrolled at US institutions in a baccalaureate degree program who have completed at least 4 semesters by the time the program starts and have good academic standing with
a minimum GPA of 3.0.
We are looking forward to another summer of undergraduate research activities on campus. With your help, we expect to recruit a diverse, high quality group of students for 2017. Thank you in advance for your support of SURF. If you have any questions, contact me or Vicki Leavitt.
