PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS "Prey"
PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS "Prey"
12"LP - $10.70 / CASSETTE - $6.00 / CD - $7.00
DEATHWISH / DW193
**INDIE EXCLUSIVE COLOR STILL AVAILABLE**
Planes Mistaken For Stars formed in Peoria, Illinois in 1997, and relocated to Denver Colorado in 1999. From the outset, they were an artistic anomaly; carrying both a worn rust belt heart and a warm midwestern soul. Collectively they combined different kinds of musical rebellion; hardcore aggression, punk energy, and gritty rock n’ roll spirit into their own special noise. Ultimately laying the blueprint for today’s emotional punk rock resurgence.
"Prey" is the long awaited new album from Planes Mistaken For Stars. Produced and engineered by Sanford Parker (Wovenhand, Leviathan, Yob), "Prey" is a beautifully haunting return to form. In need of isolation to finish writing the album, founder Gared O’Donnell took to the road alone. Instead of finding a predictable muse, he found himself driving deep into the crumbling heart of middle America. There, Gared took up residence in decrepit motels, finding inspiration in the descending darkness surrounding him.
Chaotic opener "Dementia Americana" serves as a rude awakening with the lyrical crescendo of "Wake Up!" being shouted over and over again. It's as if the creators are fighting to emerge from the eternal tumble of a nightmare. From there, the next five songs are seemingly instant Planes Mistaken For Stars classics; "Til' It Clicks", "Riot Season", "F*cking Tenderness", "She Who Steps", and "Clean Up Mean". All of them are multi-layered, melodic, and infectious in a way that only they can be. These lead to the touching "Black Rabbit"; a stark acoustic number that shows Gared at his most vulnerable. "Pan In Flames" and "Enemy Blinds" then creep into view. Two powerful songs explore almost apocalyptic musical territory. These usher in the jaw dropping closer "Alabaster Cello" which ends with the lyrical mantra of "Now We Wake...". Signaling that the figurative slumber is over for this off kilter and brilliant cult status band.

COLD CAVE "Full Cold Moon"
COLD CAVE "Full Cold Moon"
12"LP - $8.75
DEATHWISH / DW179v
**REPRESSED ON GREY VINYL**
Cold Cave is the creative rebirth of acclaimed musician and writer Wesley Eisold. Cutting his teeth in underground bands American Nightmare (Give Up The Ghost) and Some Girls, Eisold's body of work has truly effected a generation of listeners. Through constant cross-pollination Eisold has gained mass appeal, influencing underground and popular culture with his ever evolving artistic vision.
With an already prolific number of releases, Cold Cave has become a name synonymous with the contemporary resurgence of Darkwave and Synth Pop sub-genres. Propelling Cold Cave to perform at world class museums The Getty and the Guggenheim, as well as performances with legends Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Nine Inch Nails, among others.
Deathwish are proud to announce “Full Cold Moon” from Cold Cave, now for the first time on 12”LP vinyl format (a CD collection was released on Eisold’s Heartworm imprint in 2014).
“Full Cold Moon” is a compilation of EP recordings originally individually released in 2013, now presented as one collection; “A Little Death to Laugh”, “Oceans With No End”, “God Made the World”, “Black Boots”, and “Nausea, the Earth and Me”. Notably this is also the first vinyl appearance of the song “Dandelion” as well as the entire “Nausea, the Earth and Me” EP (previously only available on limited CD and Digital formats). This is Cold Cave at it’s most artistically skeletal, similar to the celebrated “Cremations” and “Love Comes Close” releases. Twelve minimal compositions driven by Eisold’s synth derived hooks, alluring vocals, and compelling character.

But that's exactly what Profile is; something diverse and unified, like the hardcore scene we all put our time, effort and love into. We can only hope that this record evokes fun, compassion, energy, and tolerance. We hope this record interacts with your reality no matter how you identify.

VIOLENT MAGIC ORCHESTRA "CATASTROPHIC ANONYMOUS"
VIOLENT MAGIC ORCHESTRA "CATASTROPHIC ANONYMOUS"
12"LP - $12.50
THROATRUINER / THROAT058v
VIOLENT MAGIC ORCHESTRA is an unique project comprised of dark techno prodigy Paul R_gimbeau (Mondkopf, Extreme Precautions, Autrenoir), Japanese experimental black metal collective Vampillia and noise master Pete Swanson (ex-Yellow Swans). Their ten-tracks debut album "Catastrophic Anonymous" features vocal contributions from Attila Csihar (Sunn o))), Mayhem) and Chip King (The Body).
VMO's overall sound is a multi-headed beast that can't be pitched in a single line. "Catastrophic Anonymous" roots are indubitably those of a harsh record, with expansive black metal guitars powered by Extreme Precautions-style glitchy textures & brain-melting drum machine work as well as Pete Swanson's noisy soundscapes. Then it also covers a wide range of genres - flirting with industrial techno, post-rock or drone - while always sounding effortlessly natural. Mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Atomsmasher) and illustrated by french artist Metastazis, "Catastrophic Anonymous" is the fruit of boundary-pushing people, and a refreshing, spectacular experience.

01. The Beginning Of Fortune
02. Acts Of Charity

COWARDS "Still"
COWARDS "Still"
12"LP - $12.50
THROATRUINER / THROATR057v
Far from resting on the laurels earned with their monumental second full-length, 2015's "Rise To Infamy", Paris most nothing COWARDS keep it busy with "Still". This brand new EP gather all their abilities - the sharpest riffing, the vilest grooves - on side A, with three tracks between thuggish sludge, unmoshable hardcore and knife-fighting black metal. Side B features two life-crushing covers (The Police "Every Breath You Take" and The Horrorist "One Night In NYC") in the grand COWARDS tradition, recorded during the Rise To Infamy sessions.
Once again produced by Francis Caste at Sainte Marthe Studios and illustrated by Camille Blanchemain, "Still" crowns these full-time lonewolves as one of the most focused, major acts in today's metallic hardcore realm. Played by and for people who have strictly zero concern about fitting in any scene, ever.

01. Still (Paris Most Nothing)

ALEX G "DSU"
12"LP - $13.75
RUN FOR COVER / RFC154v
Two years after its initial release on boutique Brooklyn label Orchid Tapes, Alex G’s fourth LP DSU will be reissued on Run For Cover Records this September. Considered by many to be the record that shone a spotlight onto the longtime lo-fi Bandcamp-favorite, DSU is an indie rock record empowered & enlightened by Alex Giannascoli’s bedroom-pop sensibilities. An acronym for “Dream State University,” DSU’s thirteen songs consistently reinvent indie-pop in a way that truly makes the album dream-like, not only because of the serene calmness of tracks like “Skipper” & “Boy,” but also in the hauntingly jarring mid-album number “Axesteel” & the kinetic swelling & pitch-shifting “Icehead." What DSU offers as a whole is a collection of songs that endlessly bend existing indie-rock tropes with Alex G’s sincere strand of otherness, presenting an early but ambitious portrait of one of the next great songwriters of our time.

CRYING "Beyond The Fleeting Gales"
12"LP - $13.75
RUN FOR COVER / RFC153v
Crying has been mostly reclusive since releasing the “Get Olde / Second Wind” double EP in 2014. Save for touring with the likes of Modern Baseball, Somos & Laura Stevenson over distant lands, the New York-based triumvirate has left a shroud of mystery as to when & how they will return. That being said, our heroes have returned to us with Beyond the Fleeting Gales, an album to heal our broken nation & realms beyond. The new album can best be described as Crying: Evolved - whether powered by the moon or crystals that a wizard found at a punk house or the sincere, unrelenting power of rock, Crying’s former formula of mixing motown melodies with outsider electronics & prog rock riffage is supercharged on this ten song monster of an album. Soaring & sweeping guitars, moody melodies, airy synth backdrops & an unrelenting drum performance come together like the fingers of a clenched fist to swing upward into the sky on Crying’s first proper album, Beyond The Fleeting Gales, available this fall via Run For Cover.

NICOLE DOLLANGANGER "Observatory Mansions"
12"LP - $13.75
RUN FOR COVER / RFC158v
Nicole Dollanganger has been quietly crafting her own world since 2012. Over a number of self-released albums recorded mostly in her own bedroom and bathroom, her signature style of gothic folk is inspired by countless influences, none more than the archetype of the love song. Dollanganger’s signature lyricism is front-and-center - usually accompanied by barely more than a few lonesome chords, narratives are idyllic, yet haunting - dream-like, yet startlingly real.
This Fall, Run For Cover Records will be reissuing two early-yet-masterful pieces of Nicole Dollanganger’s catalog on vinyl and cassette: 2013’s Ode To Dawn Wiener: Embarrassing Love Songs & 2014’s Observatory Mansions. The thesis of “Ode to Dawn Wiener” is as straightforward as its subtitle, but over ten songs it becomes clear that there is much more to these songs than what they offer at the surface. “Observatory Mansions” shows Nicole’s songwriting progressing, with reverb-soaked guitars, echoing synths & stirring samples coming together only to intensify the pull of her stories of love, violence, sexuality and death - all of which would be horrifying if they weren’t so enchanting - a recurring yet poetic tension in Nicole Dollanganger’s world.

TEEN SUICIDE "Bonus EP"
12"LP - $12.50
RUN FOR COVER / RFC155v
Teen Suicide’s latest 'Bonus EP' is a concise collection of songs which were only previously available via Dropbox links from the band’s Facebook page. Salvaged from the internet abyss between thinkpieces on Marilyn Manson’s ribcage and pictures of Omar from The Wire, Bonus EP’s six tracks are as genre-defying as their latest twenty six track swansong LP It’s the Big Joyous Celebration, Let’s Stir the Honeypot - pulsating, glitchy arrangements like opener “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and the autotune-heavy “Slow to Work it Out” are as captivating as the psych-pop-influenced “Lately” and “Lost Cause” are catchy. Though it exists as a compilation of almost-lost tracks - the EP’s refusal to be tied down to a single defining genre or mood for more than a few moments is as accurate a portrayal of Teen Suicide’s impetus as a band as we’re ever likely to get.
