Dear BTO Supporter
Welcome to your East Glamorgan Winter 2017 newsletter. Looking over the past year, it’s pleasing to see continued growth in membership and participation in a wide range of volunteer surveys in our region.
Hopefully, this newsletter gives you a taste of local activity and will encourage you to get further involved in the work of the BTO. We are planning a few events this year and look forward to seeing some of you over the coming months.
Best wishes

This time last year, volunteers from across our region were counting birds around our coastline for the BTO’s Non-Estuarine Waterbirds Survey. We were thrilled that 21 volunteers stepped up to count 57 of our 58 survey sectors between Penarth and Kenfig.
Data is currently being analysed and we expect the results to be made available online in March 2017, but, in the meantime, here are some top line NEWS headlines from the BTO East Glamorgan region.

We were delighted with local participation in the House Martin Nest Study in 2016, with nest sites being monitored from St Brides Major to Caerphilly, and from Tonypandy to Cardiff Bay. Anecdotal reports suggest that last year’s breeding season was later than normal and the BTO has decided to repeat the nest study in 2017.
If you know of sites where House Martins nest in your area, look out for the Spring Newsletter to find out how you can get involved.
