January: A Legacy of Compassion
With the beginning of a New Year come many resolutions.  These resolutions may be realistic or over-reaching.  We all know that one or two simple, achievable goals can turn into a life-long habit.  Our focus for the month of January, A Legacy of Compassion, can be that new found goal. It calls forth in us the ability to feel with others…to put ourselves in their shoes and try to walk their path.  Compassion challenges us to be transformed, to be converted.  We must step away from our own desires and pursuits and become mindful and sensitive to the plight of others. ~ Read more ~

Testing Newton's Laws
During the second trimester in science, sixth grade has been exploring Newton's three laws of motion through a unit called Newton's Toy Box. Students experiment with toys such as basketballs, noise clackers, parachutes, and toy cars in order to prove each law of motion. They participate in games, races, and special challenges as firsthand experiences with motion concepts such as speed, velocity, distance, and acceleration. Some other key concepts include gravity, momentum, inertia, mass, and force. The laws of motion are explained in such a way that the students are able to apply them to their everyday lives. ~ See photos ~

Curriculum Council: Spanish
This year in Spanish class, students in grades 5 through 8 are seeing even more of a shift towards full immersion. The use of language immersion in the classroom will ultimately move our students to becoming more conversationally fluent in their target language. The idea of full immersion is that the student is being urged to use and understand the target language to simulate “surviving, using less and less of his/her native language. ~ Read more ~
