President's Note

The start of 2017 and the Year of the Rooster marked a transition for TACL and I have the pleasure of wishing you into this new year as TACL’s President for 2017. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the graduating members of the 2016 National Board: Darrell Chan, Director of Design; Brooke Chuang, Secretary; and, George Liao, Director Technology and Membership. I'd also like to welcome the new (awesome) National Board members for 2017:
  • Wellington Tzou (former TAP-Atlanta President), Vice President of Operations;
  • Jeff Shieh (who also runs TACL’s Political Internship Program), Director of Civic Engagement;

as well as returning (amazing) National Board members:

  • Austin Ko, Director of Communications / Secretary, and
  • Jacqui Wu, Treasurer
As you might know, TACL's mission is to enhance the life of Taiwanese Americans. Building off a history of 31 years, what exactly does this mean for the TACL in 2017?
  1. Maintain the strength of the TACL community across LID, LYF, PIP, and our 9 TAP chapters. TACL has built a strong support network with the common thread of genuine community uniting us. This is and will continue to be TACL's core. Tangibly, we will continue to foster relationships between leaders and provide resources to enhance programs.
  2. Equip our members with tools to speak out -- We will push forth on TACL's efforts to amplify the voice of Taiwanese Americans. As we bolster our civic engagement strategy and programs, I encourage all TACL members to play an active role and express their opinions.
  3. Support other communities -- TACL will use its platform to speak out not only for Taiwanese Americans but also in support of others, specifically, groups at risk of having their voices silenced. The Taiwanese/Taiwanese American community has experienced injustices in its history but can use its privileges to prevent this history from repeating itself in other communities.
This 2017 roadmap for TACL is still evolving and the National Board wants to hear from you. We're excited to serve the Taiwanese American community this year and are deeply interested in understanding what is important to you. Feel free to email us at tacl@tacl.org and remember to “Like” us on Facebook.

Best,

Pamela Hung
