Year 7 are Champion
 

Year 7 competed in the Southern Counties 5-a-side football tournament in Fareham on Tuesday. The boys had convincingly qualified from the Andover round after winning all of their matches before Christmas. However, the standard at this event is extremely high because it pits the best teams from Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, IOW and the Channel Islands against each other.

The team got off to a bad start after losing 4-3 to LV School from Berkshire after being 3-0 up! This meant qualification was going to be extremely difficult as the team couldn’t lose another game all day. Fortunately, we have a very talented and hard working bunch of boys and they didn’t disappoint, they learnt from their mistakes during the first game and went on to win all their other group games.

JH 4-2 St Edmunds

JH 6-1 St Sampson

JH 4-0 St Birinus

JH 2-0 Sholing

The team finished 2^nd in the group and had to play the top team from the other group which was Yateley. The boys put in a great performance winning 3-1. In the final we met LV School with the boys convinced revenge was on the cards. John Hanson boys dominated the first half and rightly went a goal up, but unfortunately hit the post and crossbar and squandered numerous chances. After the break LV came out fighting, had their first two shots and scored. John Hanson lost 3-2 and LV progressed to the National finals in Birmingham.

The team (below) couldn’t have given any more, and should be immensely proud of their fantastic achievements.
