The  LWVUS Board of Directors voted unanimously Tuesday, January 10th, for the League to participate officially in the DC March.

The Board felt it was important they take the time to confirm that this peaceful protest is in line with the League’s principles. They know this event will bring together many organizations with a variety of priorities and messages for the incoming administration, not all of which they will agree with. But as women and defenders of our democracy, there is more that unites us than divides us.

This is an opportunity for the League to make our voice heard on our priorities. We march for voting rights. We march to reform money in politics. We march for health care. We march for the environment.

This decision also pertains to state and local Leagues interested in participating in sister marches. LWVSF members, if you had already planned to march you can now do so proudly wearing your LWVSF buttons.

When: Saturday, January 21st at 4:30 PM
Where: We will be meeting at 4:30 PM at the Civic Center Plaza corner of Polk and McAllister.

Join us! The LWVSF Advocacy/Action and Membership Committees have been working diligently to put together the upcoming 2017-2019 Program Planning Meeting.

Ask yourself, what issues LWVSF should emphasize in advocacy or community education? What are the areas of concern to us here in SF? Was there an issue on the 2016 ballot on which you wished the League had been able to take a stand?

The League is a grassroots organization and this is the grassroots at work. You set our direction!

When: Saturday, January 28 at 9:30 - 12:30 PM
Where: Richmond Police Station (b/n Geary & Anza)
461 6th Avenue San Francisco, CA 94118

Volunteer Opportunities
The League of Women Voters of the Bay Area is always looking for observers of some of the regional government agencies.  No need to attend in person, all meetings are available online!  A very brief summary of any important decisions or actions could then be forwarded to LWVBA.  Among the agencies one could chose from are:
  • BCDC, the Bay Conservation and Development Commission charged with protecting the Bay;
  • MTC, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission which deals with transportation planning for the nine-county Bay Area;
  • RWQCB, the Regional Water Quality Control Board which could be very interesting during our drought;
  • WETA, SF Bay Water Emergency Transit Authority which deals with ferry services;
  • the Bay Area Economic Council Institute which deals with our region's economic climate.
Who knew we had so many regional agencies?  Their decisions affect all of us so if you would like to keep track of one or more of them online, please contact our LWVSF representative to LWV Bay Area, Heather Sterner at thesterners@sbcglobal.net.
