Regional Reports
Burdekin and Bowen
The Burdekin / Bowen season has come to an end.
Mareeba and Dimbulah
Steady volumes of all varieties, primarily Honey Gold and Calypso, have been dispatched from the region. After heavy rain in the past fortnight, growers were able to pick over the weekend, which should see good volumes dispatched to market next week.
Some growers have also now started to pick late season varieties, such as Keitt, which should be seen in the market in coming weeks.
South East and Central Queensland
Growers toward Rockhampton are looking to start picking Keitt toward late January. Closer to Bundaberg, growers have started picking or are about to start. Small but steady volumes of fruit are expected in coming weeks.
The AMIA team will add to these regional descriptions as more information becomes available.

Australian Mangoes, a WINNER in Korea
Australian Mangoes were a highlight for over 1200 guests who attended the 2017 Australia Day event hosted by the Australian Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, on 12 January 2017.

Many guests lined up to taste and enjoy Australian mangoes at the ‘Taste Australia’ stand where there was a beautiful display of R2E2 mangoes and the opportunity to sample fresh sliced mangoes and mango sorbet.
|
|
In addition, mango and coconut muffins and Aussie pavlova with mango and passionfruit were served. All this mango goodness added to the celebratory experience of the Australia Day event, and was well received by invitees.
Bundaberg drinks, Gobble’s organic dried vine fruit, Australian almonds, lamingtons and Australian beef and lamb were also served at the ‘Taste Australia’ tables and to compliment these tasty morsels, guests had a chance to enjoy a VB and a variety of Australian wines.

Adding to the buzz and excitement of the party atmosphere was the award ceremony that launched the evening’s proceedings with Manbulloo receiving the 2016 AustCham Korea Business Award for excellence in the food and beverages category. Awardees were selected for their exceptional businesses which have contributed to further developing the Australia-Korea business relationship.

This past week has been a busy one for the press office, as Take 5 printed a recipe for fruit tart, Delicious shared a recipe for mango and blackberry froyo, Prevention included a recipe for sun shake smoothie,Taste.com.au Magazine shared a recipe for mango and coconut ice cream, and Home Beautiful printed a six-page mango feature!

Meanwhile, ABC Radio mentioned mangoes throughout the week, with discussions surrounding the impact of rain on the current harvest, an interview with Wez and Katut Bassett, and an interview with Treena Welch regarding mango exports to South Korea.
Online, Fairfax Regional Media discussed the Honey Gold harvest in eight of their publications, whilst The Daily Telegraph shared a recipe for mango and pistachio trifle.
Moreover, Nagi Maehashi of Australia's most popular food blog, Recipe Tin Eats, paid a second visit to Groves Grown Tropical Fruits farm and shared a stunning blog post about her experiences, the harvest and a recipe for mango daiquiris! Nagi's blog reaches 2,900,000 unique monthly users (and receives 3,500,000 page views).

Our annual YouTube activity is in full swing, with Greg's Kitchen sharing a how-to recipe video for mango salsa to his 129,000 subscribers, whilst Cooking with Karma posted a video explaining how to make mango, blueberry and coconut muffins for her 164,000 subscribers!

Nagi has also been sharing her farm visit with her social media followers, having posted a harvest video, a recipe video, and beautiful harvest image with her 100,000 Instagram followers!

Our own Instagram page also shared a 'boomerang' video showing the opening and closing of a mango hedgehog, which has received over 200 views and 161 likes. Finally, the Facebook page has run another Mango Madness competition, seeing a season record of 975 comments!
