Hi Moms and Dads

A very warm welcome to Fish Hoek Pre-Primary for 2017.
It is wonderful to be back at school seeing all our children again and meeting our new children and their parents. We hope this year will be all you hoped and dreamed it would be. And we are sure your stay with us will be a happy and exciting one.

You may have a few tears this week as you drop your child off with their new teacher or for some, for the first time. It’s tough I know, but keep a brave face, smile and look happy and confident, and try to drop and go! (hand your child over to the teacher or assistant and then leave). It works best for you and your child. Your child's teacher, Jane or myself, will phone you during the morning if your child is upset.

This newsletter will be emailed every Monday to those of you on our mailing list. We would rather email to keep 'paper wise', but if you need a hard copy please let Jane know in the office and she will put one in your child's message pocket. Each child has a message pocket outside their classroom. Chat to your child's teacher and she will show you where your pocket is situated. An enlarged version of the newsletter will also be put up outside your child’s classroom. If both parents would like a copy of this newsletter, please let Jane know and we will gladly send to both email addresses.
Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.
Our functions and activities have been written up in the section 'Dates to diarise.' Please have a read. More information on these events will follow shortly, to explain them more fully.

The staff attended a wonderful A+ workshop over the holidays and have gained so much skill and knowledge. It was a fantastic learning and team building experience and you and your children will be reaping the benefits of being an A+ School. Each Monday I will be giving you more information about this exciting adventure the school is a part of and you will notice posters and new additions as you move and look around the school.

We would like to welcome Kimberly Wain, Aneeka De Klerk, Toni Orgill and Saadiqah Solomon to our school.
We wish them all a happy and wonderful time with us.

NEEDED URGENLY
We have a parent in the school who is urgently looking for a flat to rent.
Flat: 1 or 2 bedrooms
Occupation: 28th Feb / 1st March
Please contact Heidi 071 076 3988

GATE SECURITY SYSTEM

For your child’s safety, please note that we have a gate security system. It will take a few weeks to load all the new information onto it, as it involves a fingerprint entrance device and we ask for your time and patience. Each new parent will need to have their fingerprint registered into the system, as well as any grandparents who frequently fetch the children. Jane will also have a control device, to let in visitors. We will need a few minutes of your time in the morning to register you onto the system.
Please use the bell, a button on the left hand side, in the little box at the gate if you have not registered your fingerprint yet. Cards will be issued to those whose fingerprints do not register properly.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU CLOSE BOTH GATES WHEN ENTERING AND LEAVING THE SCHOOL FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILDREN!

HATS AND SUN CREAM

Please don’t forget sun cream and hats for your children each day!!!! Sun cream needs to be applied at home each morning. Ingrid who is in charge of Stay and Play( aftercare) will put cream on the children for the afternoon. The children can wear any hat to school. Any hat that they feel comfortable wearing!!!
We do have school hats with the school name and logo on them if you would like to buy one of those. There are two kinds; a hat with a wide brim and a cap with a peak and a flap over the neck area. Please pop into the office to have a look at our samples and if you would like to purchase one. Jane will order one for you. They cost R60 each.

SCHOOL FEES

Please note that January School Fees are due and must be paid as soon as possible. Statements will be sent to you via email or placed in your child’s message pockets each month.
The Stationary fee of R500 is now due. Included in this price is a class t’shirt for your child, which will be handed out to your child early in February.
Please be sure that you have returned your signed fees commitment form to Jane in the office. We keep this on file and it is a commitment to pay your school fees.
Please note we are an Independent school and rely heavily on School Fees to pay teacher's salaries and the upkeep of the school. We only receive a small subsidy from the WCED for our Grade R children.
We have bursar, Phyllis, who will be in charge of all fees and fee related issues. Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions.

FOOD FOR A FRIEND

Donations to Rainbow Preschool
Each week we collect fruit and sandwiches and take them to Rainbow Preschool to distribute among the children there. We will take the food to them on a Wednesday morning.
Rainbow Preschool is an Educare Center in Masiphumelele with about 80 children ranging from 3 to 5 years old. We have developed a relationship with them and help them with their educational program, stationery and toys and the up keep of their building and garden.
Please bring an extra fruit or sandwich and put it in the Mandela box, situated at the door, outside the office, on a Wednesday morning.
Anyone wishing to come with me to look at the school and become more involved in this initiative is welcome to come and chat to me.
Thank you!

EQ: Making friends and feeling welcome.
GENERAL: Welcome to the SHARK Class
LANGUAGE: Recognising and writing my name.
MATHS: Days of the week, months or the year, seasons.

Welcome to the our Grade R  SHARK Class.
We look forward to teaching your child and getting to know you and your family.
A special welcome to the new parents. We know you are in a new environment- new routines, rules and faces. If you have any queries please ask for help.
The staff attended A+ Schools training from 3-7 January. It was informative and helped the staff in so many areas. We look forward to implementing some new ideas and are privileged to have the continued support of the A+ Schools team who will visit our school during the year.
Our goal this term is to help the children build and form good relationships and friendships with us and each other. We also look forward to building good relationships with you the parents and encourage you to do this by attending school functions and by communicating with us in the mornings and afternoons.
Please let us know if your child has any allergies, special dietary needs and if they are vegan or vegetarian. Please write it in the SHARK  notebook.
We also need to know who will fetch your child from school. We have a strict policy that we do not let children tell us in the morning.
SNACK BOXES please note we encourage a healthy snack-  sandwiches, carrot sticks, cucumbers, mini tomatoes, cheese go home with friends or family members or in taxis unless we have been told about it. Once again write it in the notebook and also, biltong, cheddars or any other savoury biscuits. No sweet biscuits, muffins, cake, chocolate, chips of any sort etc Facebook. We take photos of the children and post them on a closed FHPPS site. Please let us know if you do or do not want photos of your child posted on the site. You will get a form to fill in during the next few weeks.
At present it is very hot so please put sunscreen on your child in the mornings and send a hat to school with them.
GRADE R hours are different to the rest of the school.
Our Programme runs from 8-15 am to 1 pm.  It is important for children to be on time as we will close our home base room at 8-30. Our mornings will start with Brain Gym- this helps develop large and fine motor skills, concentration and calms the children for the day. We introduce and teach most of our maths concepts during the morning lesson so it is very important that your child is at school on time.
This week we want you and your child to settle into our class and school happily and to feel safe and secure.
Have a wonderful week.

A warm welcome to all my new Starfish families.  I look forward to a wonderful, exciting year with your children, watching them grow and develop.  There may be a few tears over the first couple of weeks until they get to know us, make new friends and become used to their new classroom and routine.  Just to let you know there is a "Message Book" on the lunch lockers if you need to inform me of something.  Please empty your child's pocket weekly, which hangs on the classroom door.  We have a weekly newsletter which comes out on a Monday via email.  Please let Jane know your email address. If you do not have an email address we will put a copy in your child's pocket.  This is our way of communicating with parents.  We also have a notice board up in the classroom, filled with information of importance e.g. Forthcoming outings
PLEASE ADVISE ME ASAP IF YOUR CHILD HAS ANY ALLERGIES.  You can fill it in on the relevant sheet on our notice board.  Thank you!
Our theme for the first two weeks is "Making someone feel welcome" and "My School".  These two weeks we will be discussing boundaries, agreements for the different areas and just settling the children and getting to know each other.  Our focus is "Fine Motor Skills".  Encourage your children to peg your washing on the line for you or fold socks in pairs or thread beads.
Just to let you know the children call me "Mrs van Eyk" and not Teacher Colleen.  My assistant is Mrs Fuzile but the children may call her Mama Patience.  Look forward to getting to know you all.
Have a wonderful first week

Hello everyone,
We gladly welcome to Fish Hoek Pre-primary and to our Rainbow Class!
Trusting you had a wonderful holiday and we are looking forward to great experiences with you and your children. We hope to work together to meet our expectations considering children's needs and your needs for them.
This week we are going to work around the theme ' my school', orientation so they get to know the environment in which they play and learn better. This will be integrated with our emotional theme to make them feel welcome, loved and safe. All this will be done through a lot of activities and educational games in a more fun way.
Just a reminder, please remember to pack spare clothing and label your child's items. Apply sunscreen on them and bring some for aftercare and a sunhat.
Please pack in healthy snack including a fruit and a bottle of water. NO chocolates, muffins, sweets etc.
Remember to just drop your child in the mornings, say your good byes and go.
Looking forward to working together and supporting our children.

We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...
