CAZ finished 2016 strong and is off to a good start to 2017. As you know, many of our activities require secrecy and thus can’t be shared. However, we can say that several companies are considering new chemical investments in West Virginia, and in time, we expect additions to the WV family much like our new friends at US Methanol.
In the meantime, here a few things we have been involved in over the past few months at the Chemical Alliance Zone.
Appalachian Storage Hub Conference June 15
You’ve likely heard lots of information on a potential Appalachian Storage Hub — underground storage facilities for ethane and possibly other NGLs plus pipelines to move ethane and other feedstocks to chemical plants. If not, you can read more here … The $10 Billion Petchem Growth Engine for Appalachia. And you can also attend the first Appalachian Storage Hub Conference on June 15 in Canonsburg PA where Kevin will be moderating a Chemical Industry Panel discussion.
Interphase Materials Makes Forbes 30 Under 30 List
Through our ChemCeption incubator, we have been working with 23 companies, including Interphase Materials, a startup out of the University of Pittsburgh that our partners at the Charleston Area Alliance discovered. Interphase plans to do some scale-up and other work at the WV Regional Technology Park. Noah Snyder and Kasey Catt of Interphase were recently selected for the 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
Coal to Chemicals a Nut Worth Cracking
Converting coal to chemicals is technically proven but economically a tough nut to crack, but in WV, it may be a nut worth cracking. See our Op-Ed here … Coal to Chemicals Op Ed - DiGregorio
Chemical Plants as Works of Art
Tony Papa, retired Union Carbide chemist and local painter, showcased his Kanawha Valley chemical industry paintings at our Members Meeting last fall. Now his paintings are on display at the WV Regional Technology Park (Building 740 and Advanced Technology Center). Feel free to drop by and take a look, and let Kevin know if you do so he can say hello. Tony also has calendars and prints available at Gallery Eleven.
