Miracle Worker...Opens Thursday

Mercyhurst Preparatory School’s Performing Arts Department presents The Miracle Worker.  The story is about a young blind, deaf and mute Helen Keller and her attempt to conquer the challenges of communication.

You won’t want to miss this wonderful production!

PARENTS PLEASE TAKE NOTE:  Safe Environment Presentation for Students on January 25 and 26, 2017

All Catholic schools in the diocese of Erie are annually required by the Bishops of the United States to present age-appropriate programs to our students as part of the Child Protection/Safe Environment Program.  This mandate is a response to evidence that shows that students who have been inserviced in child protection topics are more likely to come forward to report cases of inappropriate behavior.

Mercyhurst Prep will offer such a program on Wednesday, January 25 and Thursday, January 26 to all of our students.  Personnel from Safe Harbor Behavioral Health will present an inservice opportunity to students within the context of their theology classes.  The presentation will focus on the theme of healthy relationships and will include topics such as communication, healthy decision making, how to identify an abusive relationship and how someone can get help.

If, for some reason, you do not want your child to participate in this program, please call Mrs. DiTullio at 824.2323 so that your son or daughter may be excused from this presentation on the day it is presented.  In this case or in the event that your child is absent from the assembly due to illness or other necessary reason, MPS is required to send to you a Parent Training Packet so that you can complete the inservicing at home as well as a Parent Option Form that we must ask you to complete and return for our records.
Laker Life Gala Host Couples...Calling all Parents and Friends of MPS!

How can you positively impact MPS while having a great night out?  Consider joining the Host Committee for the Laker Legends Scholarship Gala.  As a host sponsor, you would help spread the word about the Gala and encourage your friends to join you for a wonderful night celebrating MPS.  Signing up by January 20 ensures that your name will be included in the invitation.  Once your friends see your name on their invitation, they will want to join you.  Don’t know a lot of other MPS families?  Becoming a Host and attending the Gala is a great way to make new friends!

The Laker Legends Scholarship Gala is Saturday, March 4 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Ambassador Hotel & Conference Center.  The Gala honors Laker Legends and helps to raise vital scholarship funds for current and future Lakers.  The Gala has a Kentucky Derby theme this year and includes a great meal, great prizes, live music, dancing and horse races!

For more information about joining the Host Committee, please contact Karen at kgroshek@mpslakers.com today.

Class Scholarship Update

Thanks to everyone who has given to the Mercyhurst Prep Fund so far.  The idea is for donations from members of each graduating class to total at least one full scholarship.  We have a long way to go!

The top giving class is 1971.  Tied for second are 1978 and 1982.  The class of 1975 has the next highest total.

Please consider giving a gift today at mpslakers.com/mpfund.  Donations of all sizes will combine to create vital scholarships and financial aid for deserving students.

Grammy nominated international vocalist and bandleader Solitaire Miles Robinson ‘85

MPS helped me stay in a private school by offering me a music scholarship, and I couldn’t have attended the school without it.  It was MPS that gave me the drive and ambition to live and work in Manhattan and Chicago and to travel around the world performing my music in cities like London and Paris.  I came from a low income home, but MPS took me in and gave me the music scholarships and training which have been the most important foundation for the successful career I have today.”

Scholarships are provided according to financial need, as well as merit based scholarships for academics and the arts.
