THIS  WEEK'S REFLECTION :
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our reflection this week is on Micah 6:8, a text that may be familiar from one of our favorite songs (We Are Called):

God has told you, O mortal, what is good;

  and what does God require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

  and to walk humbly with your God?

In celebration of Dr. King’s birthday this Sunday, we will be joined by a special guest, Kent Annan, author of Slow Kingdom Coming and other books exploring the themes of justice and spirituality. In his most recent book, Annan explores practices for working for a better world without becoming exhausted or cynical. Annan is also co-director of Haiti Partners, a nonprofit focused on education in Haiti. (And he’s a good friend of Darla’s from grad school.)

How do we sustain our energy for the long work of doing justice that God and the world require of us?

How do we draw on the wisdom and support of each other and role models like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Celebrating RIC Sunday
Sunday, January 29, 2017

“The truth is, no one of us can be free until everybody is free.” (Maya Angelou)

Each year Reconciling in Christ churches observe RIC Sunday. Why do  we set aside this day? It is a way for churches to renew their commitment as a welcoming congregation, continue to educate on why it matters that we explicitly welcome the LGBTQ community, and to celebrate God's abundant love and hospitality. Did you know there are currently 39 RIC communities in the Northwest Washington Synod? That’s a gain of nine in the past year; and there are several more in process. We are doing good work in our corner of the world and are proud to be a part of this welcoming Synod.

Interfaith Advocacy Day
