Washington On Track to Be Second Largest US Marijuana Market

New Frontier Data’s analysis of the State of Washington’s cannabis market finds that:
  • The state’s market is currently the country’s third-largest in total sales, behind CA and CO
  • Its total 2016 cannabis market sales are expected to reach $1.2 billion.
  • Its total 2017 cannabis market sales are projected to reach $1.5 billion.
  • The state should see a compound annual growth rate of 15% between 2016 to 2020.
  • Its total 2020 cannabis market sales are projected to reach $2 billion.
  • By 2020 it is forecast to surpass Colorado as the second largest U.S. market. 

Over the past 18 months, Washington has undergone some of the most dramatic changes to any regulated cannabis program in the country. From lowering the tax rates to consolidating the medical and adult use markets into a single channel these changes are intended to streamline the market and eliminating structural inefficiencies.
