The Grateful Dead - The Orpheum Theatre San Francisco 1976 (3CDs) - The Finest Grateful Dead Show Of The Mid-1970s. Captured in glorious FM stereo sound on this superb three CD set. This gig - and most notably the second set featuring a quite extraordinary jam section across several numbers - is proof positive that 1976 is by no means a year to overlook. From the Dark Star-like hush that casually blows into Let It Grow, through jam after inspired jam, you'll find this set wastes no time attempting to grab the golden ring.

Split Lip Rayfield - On My Way CD - Split Lip Rayfield's new record On My Way highlights the powerful songwriting talents of banjo innovator Eric Mardis and mandolin renegade Wayne Gottstine, while bassist Jeff Eaton holds it all down with his hand-built one-string Stitchgiver. All of that old-school invention and energy is intact, but their songs keep getting better, and their sound is sneakier and smarter than ever. The same band with the same ideals that they've had for years, SLR is more diverse, sound-wise, than ever been before.

Tim Reynolds - That Way CD - Between time in the Dave Matthews Band, his duo partnership with its famed front man, and leadership of his electric power trio, TR3, it's remarkable that Tim Reynolds still has time to tour by himself yet alone release a new solo acoustic CD. The six and twelve-string guitar slinger lets his music do the talking as he unveils fourteen original tunes on That Way, where he proves once again that his creativity and prowess are front and center.

Omar Coleman & Westside Soul CD - This is the third album from Chicago blues vocalist and harp player Omar Coleman. The two prior releases are found on legendary Delmark Records and features the same lineup. This album focuses on west side favorites and originals by Coleman and his band leader Pete Galanis (guitar), who also serves as producer to the album. A fat layer of funk permeates the album throughout, with soul numbers and blues from opposing corners of the spectrum lay the blanket of American music across the room that is Westside Soul.
