This week at St. Luke's

Dear Friends,

The new year brings new vision at St. Luke’s. On January 22 we will gather for the Annual Meeting following Sunday worship. This gives us an opportunity to give thanks for the people and blessings that have made a difference through this congregation in the past year. We will honor retiring Bishop’s Committee members, appoint new members, elect Diocesan Convention delegates, approve the budget and look forward to the possibilities of the future.

Our new Bishop’s Committee members, Julia Hunter, Barbara Wilson, Susan Young and Nate Zetterberg represent a wonderful cross section of who we are becoming as a congregation. They will join ongoing members Whitney Patterson and Bernadette Walcott as we enter into a time of discerning God’s vision for ministry in this place.

The foundation for all we do and the decisions we make is articulated in the promises we make at baptism. The Spiritual Pilgrimage for Lent and Easter is a wonderful opportunity to join with others on the journey of faith as we explore what it means for each one of us to answer God’s call. This is for those who are new to the church or the Christian faith, for those who have questions, and for those who are affirming a new stage in their lives. An information potluck on February 12th is a good place to check out whether or not this commitment is right for you at this time in your life.

In the year ahead, more than ever we will need food for our souls and the cup of new life.  As we receive these from God’s gracious provision, may we be strengthened to share with those God places in our lives.

With faith, hope and love,
Canon Britt
“The Vicar of Ballard”

Gospel Music Sunday

This Sunday, January 15, will be Gospel Music Sunday in celebration of the life of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  We will focus on the ongoing work of combatting racism, militarism and poverty that characterized Dr. King's ministry. This service with special music and prayers is a good opportunity to invite others in this community into the work of justice and mercy that is central to our mission.

Parish Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meeting will follow the worship service at 11:30 am on Sunday, January 22. We will affirm and elect new Bishop's Committee members and Diocesan Convention Delegates and present a balanced budget! We'll also be sharing what and whom we have been grateful for at St. Luke's in 2016.

Meaningful Movies

Meaningful Movies presents Under the Bridge: The Criminalization of Homelessness at The Royal Drummer (6420 24th Ave NW) on Sunday, January 29 at 5pm. A panel discussion will follow featuring our own Sara Bates and guests from the Edible Hope feeding ministry.

Spiritual Pilgrimage

Attend our informational potluck on February 12 at 5:30pm to learn about our upcoming Spiritual Pilgrimage!

This potluck is the first step on a journey that will take place during weekly pilgrimage gatherings March 5 through May 7.

Based on ancient Christian rites of passage, this deeply experiential pilgrimage guides participants through scriptural reflections, short teachings, and their own stories and questions.

Especially recommended for those interested in baptism, confirmation, reaffirmation of faith, or membership at St Luke’s; those new to the Episcopal Church; and all who desire to deepen and explore their faith.

Community Connection

Our first Community Connection event was a huge success, with 27 people present! It was so much fun that we’re going to do it again on February 21 from 6pm to 8pm at the Royal Drummer restaurant, 6420 24th Ave. NW. All are welcome!
