Our Top 3 Hot Springs

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but these hot springs are so delightful! With all this cold weather, we’ve been venturing out to some of our favourite hot springs for a soak. We’ve compiled this list of our top three hot springs to help you stay cozy this winter.

*Disclaimer: Getting to these hot springs requires skill, good judgement and proper equipment, especially in the winter! Be prepared, do your homework, and if you are driving be sure to have an appropriate vehicle with good tires, chains and recovery gear!

Sloquet Hot Springs

Staff member Emily rung in the New Year in style at Sloquet Hot Springs. It was a nice way to celebrate the coming of a new year, away from all the crowds, and enjoy one of the best hot springs close to home! There is also a nice camping area. We recommend staying overnight and going for a soak under the stars. Bring a few candles, and you’ve got the perfect date night!
Keyhole Hot Springs

A bit of a further drive than Sloquet, but absolutely gorgeous. These hot springs are a must, especially in the winter when a blanket of snow covers the river and mountains. There are multiple pools to soak in, all varying in temperature. A short hike is required to get from the parking lot to the hot springs, it can be icy so bring microspikes and/or snowshoes!
Pitt River Hot Springs

We’ve saved the best (and most challenging) for last! These hot springs are stunning; two deep pools overlook the Pitt River in a deep canyon. Getting to these hot springs is no easy task, round trip it is a 100km journey consisting of canoeing and biking. We recommend taking at least three days to really relax and enjoy the experience. Staff member Emma along with her husband and puppy made this journey in September and are itching to go back!

“The mountains will always be there, the trick is to make sure that you are too.”

Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 & 2 Courses

It’s critical to be able to understand avalanche phenomena, recognize the terrain where avalanches occur, and find routes that minimize risk in order to fully enjoy our wonderful backcountry!  This is a must needed course for anyone who wants to get into backcountry skiing/split boarding, snowshoeing on backcountry trails, or snowmobiling.

Based on the most advanced knowledge available, this course will provide you with entry-level decision-making skills essential for backcountry travel and safety.  It will be suitable for people with basic training, no previous avalanche experience is required!

The curriculum for this course is based on the requirements set out by Avalanche Canada (AC).  By the end of the weekend you will understand the basics of avalanche formation and release in susceptible terrain, know how to plan and carry out a safe back country trip using appropriate travel techniques in avalanche terrain, and how to carry out a companion rescue.  In addition, you will learn where to find and how to use a variety of avalanche safety resources.

All of our instructors are certified by the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) and work in the Avalanche industry as either Ski /Mountain Guides, Pro Ski Patrollers, or for Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Cost: $250.00 + GST

Where: Mt. Waddington’s Outdoors and field location TBD

Wilderness First Aid

This course is designed to help you deal with an injured or ill person for up to 24 hrs. Because of the nature of the problems you may be dealing with in the outdoors, at least 50% of the course is taught outside. This means that upon successful completion of the course, you will have your Standard First Aid and CPR C certificates built into your Wilderness First Aid certificate.

In addition to the course content we include basic shelter construction that is not part of the certificate. We include this because of the nature of the environment that you will be working and the relevance to the course content.

Course is run over 1 weekend and length is dependent on group size and skill level.

Free Skill Refreshers for anyone who takes our Wilderness First Aid courses!
