Advisors' Update - January 2017

We enjoyed seeing many of you at our 91st annual Winter Convention - here is the latest news about what is going on in YOUR state Student Council association...

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR 2017 STATE OFFICERS
At the 91st annual Winter Convention, the following nine student leaders from North Jersey were elected to the 2017 NJASC Executive Board:

  • PRESIDENT - Cole Mitchell, Phillipsburg HS
  • VICE PRESIDENT - Claire Donahue, Morris County School of Technology
  • SECRETARY - Makayla Stokes, Bayonne HS
  • TREASURER - Khalid Alzubi, Parsippany HS
  • EXECUTIVE MEMBER (State Charity) - Kaelyn Baucum, Franklin HS
  • EXECUTIVE MEMBER (Special Projects) - Emily Brown, Warren Hills Regional HS
  • EXECUTIVE MEMBER (Publications) - Sofia Harty, Kinnelon HS
  • STATE BOE REPRESENTATIVE - Karan Chauhan, Parsippany Hills HS
  • MIDDLE LEVEL REPRESENTATIVE - Emma Valle, Stewartsville MS
We look forward to working with these student leaders over the next twelve months. They will meet with the outgoing 2016 State Officers at the Mercer County Technical Schools Health Sciences Academy on Monday February 6 for the annual Executive Transition Meeting. At that time, they will decide on the state theme for 2017 and begin their work as your State Officers for the coming year.

We would like to commend all the candidates that ran for 2017 State Office, who did an outstanding job with their campaigns and speeches! Student leaders in the Southern counties of our state (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem) should start thinking about a run for 2018 State Office - a good first step is to attend LTC or "LTC Advanced" (read on)...

JOIN US MARCH 13 AT ADVISORS' WORKSHOP
After a very successful debut last year, we are happy to announce that our second annual Advisors' Workshop is coming soon!

This event will be held at The College of New Jersey on Monday March 13, with a snow date of Tuesday March 14.  It will be a full day of valuable training, networking, idea sharing, and FUN - with NO students to supervise or worry about. Breakfast and lunch will be provided; we will also have lots of goodies and giveaways!

Our goal is to provide YOU with the tools you want and need to develop the student leaders of today into the leaders of tomorrow.  You'll have a chance to share ideas with fellow advisors, learn from experts in the field of Student Activities, and walk away with things you can take right back to your schools and implement to enhance your Student Council.  We also want to grow our community of advisors that can support and learn from each other, strengthening both the profession of being an advisor and NJASC as an association.

We invite advisors of ALL Student Activities - not just Student Council - to join us and become part of our growing leadership community. Registration is only $30.00 per advisor.

GET YOUR STUDENT LEADERS ENERGIZED AT LTC 2017
The NJASC Leadership Training Conference (LTC), now entering its' 62nd year, is the premier leadership training experience for the students of New Jersey. Last year over 270 student leaders from throughout the Garden State took full advantage of the oldest continually operating Leadership Training Conference of its kind in the nation!

The registration cost for LTC 2017 is only $440.00 per delegate for four days and three nights of a leadership experience like no other. Compared to sports camps and other summer programs, LTC is a bargain that will yield training and life skills that will lead to success in high school...and beyond!

LTC is not just for Student Council - we encourage student leaders from your school athletic teams, clubs/activities, National Honor Society, class office, and anyone else interested in discovering or developing their leadership skills to join us for a transformational leadership experience!

We invite your High School student leaders who already attended LTC to come back for our "LTC Advanced" program, which will take their leadership skills to the next level. "LTC Advanced" will also transition them from success in high school to further success in college and beyond!

Use these links to check out testimonials from students, advisors, parents, and school administrators about the LTC experience and how it transformed the delegates who attended! If you would like us to add your testimonial to the LTC website, please send it to Lou at lmiller@njasc.org.

Online Space Reservation and Initial Delegate Registration is NOW OPEN!!!  Make sure your student leaders are part of the oldest continually operating state Student Council Leadership Training Conference in the nation.  Have them join us on July 12-15 or July 16-19 for LTC 2017!!!

CLICK HERE to visit our registration page and either reserve spaces for your school or begin initial delegate registration!

We thank you for your support of NJASC throughout the year - and look forward to seeing many of you join us on Monday March 13 for our Advisors' Workshop!
