American School of Valencia has been selected as a finalist for the first edition of the National Award for Educational Marketing. This competition aims to recognize the innovation, creativity and perseverance of schools using marketing and communication to promote their services and engage with their communities.

Candidates are competing this week in an online voting that can be done here. Results will be combined with the individual report of a jury and the winners will be announced during a special event held in Madrid on Friday, January 20, 2017.

We invite our school community to take two minutes to support and vote for ASV’s candidacy

Relocation of Visions Café and Other Campus Upgrades

American School of Valencia has completed a series of campus renovations and upgrades which started on December 21, 2016 while students and staff enjoyed the Winter Holidays. The most important change for the the school community is the relocation of Visions Café, which on Monday, January 9, 2017, reopened in the new dining hall located in the Athletic Center. Thanks to this change, Visions Café has increased its seating capacity and has a better location within the school campus, with nice views to the basketball court  and the Athletic Field.

Alongside this upgrade, we have completed  the renovation of the First and Second Grade Corridor Bathrooms, which have received a facelift in order to improve their functionality.  In addition, the room formerly used for library storage, has been converted to host a Conference Room, the Human Resources Office, and the Creativity and Development Office. Finally, the school has  created a highly professional Admissions Office located in an area adjacent to the Atrium.  Collectively, these series of facility improvements will add improved functionality, as well as an enhanced environment for all stakeholders.

Moving forward with the ASV PBIS Program

The PBIS Planning Team had a new session on the implementation of this program supporting positive behavior at school. The team is comprised of the ASV leadership team, a several teachers and other staff members, and works following the training provided by Dr. George Sugai.

Among discussion items was determining where our students would benefit from specific routines and instruction to improve behavior, which has a positive impact in the learning environment. Dr. Sugai will be returning to the school in February 2017 to continue his collaboration with American School of Valencia.

Talk on Summer Programs with Education USA

Katherine Matles, from Education USA, an organization sponsored by the US Embassy,  visited the ASV to explain how to research summer programs and summer camps in the United States. The talk was addressed to parents of students in Grades 6 through 12.

Attending a summer camp or program is not only important for the students own personal enrichment, but to earn experiences that demonstrate maturity and readiness when applying to universities abroad. These programs can also help students explore different majors or careers to study after High School. Please keep in mind that the application process starts now and many programs fill up early. Please contact Ms Verónica Cinosi if you need any help with this.

Yesterdady’s presentation  will be attached to Voices next week.

Weekly Bake Sales: How is it going?

With the start of a new calendar year and the school year almost halfway through, Ms Julianne and Ms. Jackie would like to thank you for your support to the weekly snack sales. So far a total of 764 euros has been raised for our two organizations:  Kapita School in Zambia and the dog shelter SOS Sagunto. The money raised for Kapita school forms part of the larger donation made on the schools behalf by the ASV Foundation. Whilst a monthly donation of much needed medical supplies is given to the dog shelter from the profits of the bake sales dedicated to SOS Sagunto.

To make things simple for both students and adults alike all items cost euro. For the weeks dedicated to Kapita school different grade levels in Elementary School donate and take charge of selling the items. The profits from the next sale on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 will go to Kapita School.
