CRA Tax-Filing Changes
The CRA has noted several updates and changes to tax-filing policies. Among these changes is the Canada Child Benefit, which replaces old benefits under the Universal Child Care Benefit, the family tax cut, and children’s fitness and arts tax credits. The Children's art tax and and fitness tax have also been reduced. Learn more about these reductions by visiting CRA's website.

First Call Submission to CRA on Federal Policy Limitations
First Call has sent a submission to the CRA in regards to revising current policy that places limitations on the way charitable organizations can advocate for changes in legislation. First Call's submission is a response to the CRA asking for input on the matter, with other organizations such as Imagine Canada also providing responses. Head of Unicef in Vancouver
Head of Unicef Canada, David Morley was in Vancouver January 16 and 17 to speak about the rising inequality for children in Canada. Morley hosted a webinar and spoke at a BC Poverty Reduction Conference, highlighting the need for increased investment in early years services. This is the first of three discussions hosted by the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition as part of their 2017 Speaker Series. Read more about David Morley's visit and the Speaker Series.

$10 Child Care Can Boost BC Economy - New Study
Robert Fairholm and Lynell Anderson have recently published a study on the economic benefits of the $10 a day Child Care Plan. According to the report, $1 Million spent on child care creates the equivalent of 36.4 jobs, due to the "employment multiplier" in this type of government spending. Quebec has increased its GDP 1.7 percent as a result of implementing a $7 a day child care program. Learn more by reading the article or downloading the report.

On January 4 Inclusion BC launched the Kids Can't Wait campaign. Which aims to shed light on the long waits families and children to receive vital services. Some of the stories from families with long waits are available on the The BCACDI website. Inclusion BC has also released a report to support the campaign; it outlines key issues and challenges with current policy and it's effects on caregivers and parents.
Supporters can sign the Inclusion BC petition and raise awareness on social media using #kidscantwait.

The Government of BC has invested in a provincial access license for anyone in BC to use the Science of Early Childhood Development (SECD) resource.
This free multimedia resource can be used for your own professional development, staff training, workshops, parent education or online teaching.
This free online course through UBCx will show you ways of incorporating indigenous culture, views, and history as part of the work you perform in your organization. The course starts January 24th, so don't miss out and enroll now!
These two online training modules support continued learning about physical activity and literacy for children 0-6. Both modules are free and can be completed independently from each other.
The Society for Children and Youth of BC hosts a variety of resources on children's and youth rights. All files are easily downloadable and range from frequently asked questions from parents, to UNCRC guiding principles.
