Weather Report

The gym was closed today (last weekend before winter term begins, I guess they're taking a day off), so I hiked around Johnson for about 45 minutes.  In 2 degrees Farenheit.  Yes, I am a superhero.  I wrapped my scarf in the non-fashion-statement manner (out of necessity and to remain incognito).  It goes across your face like a surgical mask, crosses over the back of your neck, then is pulled forward and tied in front.  I remember doing that as a child in another c-c-c-old state, South Dakota.  I was a superhero back then, too.

The weather here is wacky.  And I'm reasonably tolerant of wacky, but this is something else.  The night I arrived, it was hovering around zero and snowing.  It remained frigid for two days, and then on Wednesday I woke up to warmth and sunshine: it was 50 degrees.  First thing in the morning.  Wow.  That lasted two days.  Yesterday, I woke up to 28 degrees, snowing again and a Very Cold Wind, which made it feel more like zero.  Today, it WAS zero, but no wind, thankfully.

Unlike the weather, progress in my studio has been consistently fair and sunny.  I hope you are enjoying these as much as I am!

Warmest regards,

Rachel

Two related pieces I started yesterday...
...and finished today.  These are 30x30 inches.
This is from earlier in the week, you can see it in the line of 36x36" pieces along the long wall, in a previous update.
This is slightly out of town, along the river... there are lots of these old mills.  In fact, the main VSC building is an old mill.  Pretty cool.
This is the building my studio is in.   It used to be the "normal" school.  My space is on the main floor on the opposite corner.
