A Message from Our Principal
 Greetings everyone! I know we have only seen each other a handful of times over the last month due to the holidays and the snow days, and I have missed you all! Next week it’s time to get back to work, well at least until the next snow day. At this point PPS has extended the school year only two days with the last day of school scheduled for June 13th 2017. I can tell you that this may change again and I will update you as soon as I know anything. PPS is also moving the winter teacher planning day to Friday February 3rd. We will now have school on January 27th and teachers will be working on report cards on February 3rd, meaning no school on the 3rd. You will receive your report cards for the second quarter on Friday February 10th.
Connect to Kindergarten
Connect to Kindergarten will be held at Alameda on February 8th. If you or your neighbors have students who turn five before September 1, 2017 please plan on attending at either 9:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. Children are eligible for early entry if their 5th birthday (or 6th for 1st) falls between 9/1/17 and 10/1/17.
Enrollment and Transfer
Transfer to focus options such as language immersion programs and arts/science-based schools occurs through an annual computerized lottery. The high school lottery cycle opens February 1 with an application deadline of February 22, 2017 for the 2017-18 school year. The K-8 lottery cycle opens February 8 and the application deadline is March 3, 2017. Transfer applications and open house schedules will be available when the lottery opens.

A Call for Advertising Sponsors & Donations for the Alameda Auction
The Alameda Starlight Auction, Alameda's largest annual fundraiser to support staff positions at Alameda and the All Hands Raised Equity Fund, will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the leftbank annex. We are looking for advertising sponsors at all levels ($250-$5,000) and donations of items and experiences for the silent and live auctions. If you can help with either of these, please download and complete a sponsorship form or an item donation form.

So you didn't totally deplete your wine stash during the snow days?
Great! We'll take it!
We're preparing for the Alameda Wall of Wine game of chance at the Alameda Starlight Auction on February 25! Our goal is to collect 100 bottles of wine donated by Alameda families! No plonk! Bottles must be valued $20 or higher. Drop off bottles in the office or if you have large quantities (yes, please!!!) contact us for pick up.

Racial Equity
PPS, your Alameda administrators and your PTA Board are working together to provide opportunities for the Alameda community to work together in support of racial equity. We invite you to join us. Current opportunities include:
Training for Parents: Introduction to Courageous Conversations
The PPS Office of Equity and Partnerships will provide 4 hours of training on the district's framework for racial equity and how parents can use the tools in their own understanding and support of racial equity. Training will occur on Tues Feb 21 and Mon Feb 27, from 6pm - 8pm in the Alameda Library. A Light dinner will be offered during the training and childcare will be provided through support of your Alameda PTA. Staff are also welcome to attend.
Parent Team for Racial Equity
Our next monthly meeting will be held on Tues, Jan 17 at 7pm in the Library. Learn more about an upcoming Courageous Conversations training opportunity for parents and get involved with planning the training. Future monthly meeting will be held on the third Tuesday of each month through the end of the school year. Meetings will focus on specific topics identified by the group, and will include facilitation support from PPS Office of Equity and Partnerships.
Meeting of Families of Students of Color
These meetings will be held from time to time and offer families of students of color an opportunity to discuss your experience at Alameda and help teachers and administrators better understand how to improve our school community in regards to race and equity. We are currently working to reschedule the meeting that was cancelled this week due to the snow days. Notification will be sent out once a rescheduled date and time has been set. Has the snow storm left your car a mess? Use our SCRIP program to purchase a gift card to one of 3 local car wash chains (Eco Car Wash, Kaady, and Washman) and they'll donate 26% of the purchase price back to Alameda!

Volunteer for Alameda
One of Alameda’s strengths is the rich culture of volunteerism at our school. Whether it is helping out in your child’s classroom or helping with a PTA activity from home, there is an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
