Q&A with a Cannonballer: the one, the only, MsWas!
MsWas has been the Cannonball Queen for a few years now, streamlining the process and increasing participation by leaps and bounds. Let's see what goes on in her book-addled brain...
How did you become Coordinator of Cannonball Read? Did you start out as a participant?
Cannonball Read 2 was my first time as a participant - here’s my first review! At the end of CBR3, Tamatha asked me to take over running CBR4. That Read and CBR5 were standalone blogs over at wordpress.com, and our reviews would go up daily over at Pajiba. For CBR6 though, Pajiba just couldn’t devote columns to us any longer, so they offered us the daily Pajiba Love items, and I bought the domain name cannonballread.com. Three years later and voilà!

Welcome to Cannonball Read 9!
If you're new, welcome to this wonderfully weird corner of the internet and its accompanying monthly newsletter! If you're a returning reviewer, welcome back and thanks for your continued support and awesomeness. Here are a few tidbits for newbies and vets to remember:
Registration has been extended until January 20, so if you have friends/family who are on the fence, there's still time to sign up!
Some seriously impressive stats
Our tireless statistician ingres77 has compiled the December and end-of-year stats, and wow. We posted 3,451 reviews in 2016! Good job, everybody, and here's to an equally fun and informative Cannonball Read 9.
Record-breaking donations
Those 3,451 reviews did more than overwhelm everybody's To Be Read list. Cannonball Read 8 also raised $1,275 for the American Cancer Society in 2016! The last $300 of that was raised on December 31, and was matched by the American Cancer Society. For comparison's sake, CBR7 donated $435 to the American Cancer Society, and CBR6 raised $430. So we've set the bar high for CBR9. You guys are seriously amazing.
First #CannonBookClub of the year: Fantasy
We're diving right in to book discussions this year. Vote for the fantasy novel you'd like to read, and then join us March 8 for a lively virtual book club. You have until January 17 to vote, so you have a few days to dither over the many excellent choices faintingviolet has put together for us.
Wrapping up CBR8
Please check the final Leaderboard for last year and make sure your count is accurate. We want you to get credit for every last review! If you forgot, don't fret. Contact MsWas and she can update it for you.
Cue the makeover montage
Did you notice the CBR site got a new look this year? What do you think of the redesign? Are there features you miss? Features you'd like to see? Love/hate the new colors and logo? Let MsWas know if you have any requests or suggestions. No promises, but we'll do what we can to make things as swell as possible!
