Musings on Light
Today is
Imbolc, the Festival of Light which, according to the Celtic calendar, describes the beginning of Spring.
The days become clearly longer now and the world seems somehow brighter again.
Although I am a child of Autumn and like the dark season a lot, I am noticing that with this year’s return of the light also a heaviness lightens up which seemed to lie over the earth like a collective depression.
The light is an interesting phenomenon, indeed. Already a wee spark is enough to chase away darkness. While darkness absorbs everything and basically cannot be reflected, the light will even be enhanced through reflection.
Looked upon physically, this, for example, works with a mirror. But snow also reflects the light and lets everything shine even brighter. After all, February was also called the Snow Month in the olden days.
In northern Germany where I currently live, February is no longer as snowy as it once was. Therefore, during this month I see more mist moving over the flat landscape than formerly. Like snow, mist is made of tiny water droplets, only that they are not crystalline but rather liquid to gaseous. They reflect the light anyway even though the mist occasionally takes away our ability to see into the distance.
Confined by tiny droplets of water which are reflecting the light so intensely that everything we can see is a dense, white shimmering, and that which, here and now, lies directly in front of us…
Now, substitute the word light with the word awareness and the word water with the word feelings…
That brings you into the Here and Now right quick and makes you present, does it not?
"Water reflects light. Light symbolises awareness and truth. Water symbolises feelings. So, when we allow ourselves to feel our feelings we allow ourselves to reflect the truth. We then are truthful and truthfully are. “
