Welcome to the February issue of Your Community, Your Planet! Plenty to read about in our latest newsletter concerning the community we live in.

Our projects and services...

Victoria Park community placemaking update: DRCET have been attending the various meetings and workshops. All the findings are available on the Council's website and EKOS are currently preparing the final report, recommendations and action plan.

Play on Pedals New Year Programme: Free drop-in sessions at Scotstoun Leisure Centre on Sunday 26 Feb and 12, 26 Mar from 1-3pm. Play On Pedals has engaged with 7,148 preschool children and this hugely successful project plans to continue beyond May with new funding.

NoGasificationPlantWH Malcolm campaign update: The report is with the Scottish Ministers and we expect to hear from them by the end of April at the very latest.

De'ils On Wheels - our community bike workshop 40 Kingsway Court, G14 9SU is open Wed 11am-3pm and Thu 1-5pm for sales of quality reused bikes, repairs and servicing. We also accept donations of bikes.

Upcycled gifts: check out our range of upcycled gifts which make great presents for birthdays, anniversaries and other special ocassions too!

Community Calendar: Our community calendar lists a mix of our own activities and services and other community events and activities many of which are in the G11, G13, G14 and G15 post code areas.

Changes to City Centre bus stops: The northbound contraflow bus lane on Jamaica Street has been permanently closed resulting in changes to the city centre bus stops affecting FirstBus Glasgow numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and X4.

Big funding success creates 4 new jobs at Yoker charity: Yoker Resource Centre will be delivering a new service for people with a disability living in the local communities with 4 new posts - Team Leader, Occupational Therapist, Group Worker and Volunteer Co-ordinator being created. Closing date for applications Fri 24 Feb.

Job Opportunity - LINKES: An  exciting opportunity to join the busy team at LINKES for a six month maternity cover post this management role is part-time, 2 days a week. Closing date for applications Fri 3 Mar.

Movement Park launch festival: Glasgow’s first purpose built facility for movement competencies based on South Street in Whiteinch are holding their launch weekend from Fri 10 to Sun 12 Mar. Pop along and see this amazing new use of space!

Scottish Cycling, Running and Outdoor Pursuits Show 2017: Taking you from off-road to on-track SCROPS offers an experience that will bring you the heart of cycling, running & outdoor pursuits all under one roof at the SECC from Fri 10 to Sun 12 Mar.

Friends of the Earth Glasgow election hustings: FoES and RSPB are hosting a hustings event – Environment Debates in the run up to the Scottish Local Government elections in May. The event will take place from 7-9pm on Wed 19 Apr at Adelaide’s, 209 Bath Street, Glasgow G2 4HZ.

Byres Road Corners project launch: There will be a public launch on Thu 23 Feb at 7pm in Partick Burgh Hall, G11 5LW where people will be asked to re-imagine how the street could be.

The Big Pedal 2017: The UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge will run from 20 to 31 Mar and is open to individual classes as well as whole schools.

Sustrans Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge: The Challenge aims to get as many people as possible to try changing the way they commute to work during the month of March by walking, cycling, public transport and lift-sharing.

CHEX Power, inequality and community-led health conference: The Community Health Exchange (CHEX) are holding their 2017 national conference – Power, inequality and community-led health – on Wed 1 Mar from 10:30am to 3:30pm at The Studio, 67 Hope Street Glasgow, G2 6AE

Government to publish new litter guidance: In the coming months the Scottish Government will introduce new statutory litter guidance aiming to reduce the amount of resources being spent on cleaning up other people’s mess.

GAF Potato Day 2017: The 6th annual Glasgow Allotment Forum Potato Day will be held on Sun 26 Feb 11am to 3pm at The Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, 13 Whitevale Street, Dennistoun, G31 1QW. All welcome!

Scottish Government fracking consultation: A dedicated website and discussion tool-kits have been created to help communities and other groups participate in the consultation which will run from 31 Jan to 31 May.

Planning review consultation and discussion forum: A report published back in January “Places, people and planning: a consultation on the future of planning in Scotland”  has now entered a consultation phase with responses invited up to 5pm on Tue 4 Apr.

New Council budget to deliver on the priorities of Glaswegians: The council have agreed a budget that safeguards local services and invests in cleansing, child care and communities.

Council approves 2017-22 Affordable Warmth Programme: The programme will address issues of energy efficiency and fuel poverty in Glasgow.

Environmental Task Force removes 12 acres of graffiti: Rapid response teams have power washed a record amount of graffiti since the Task Force was launched in June. Waste weighing almost 3000 tons was also uplifted from Glasgow streets.
