Happy 2017 everyone!
My newsletter is super late and super simple this month because I've been locked in my writing cave creating a brand new play in less-than-30 days for The Brooklyn Generator.
This is my 5th time creating a first draft in this way and it's always a wild ride. Here's how it works:
1. The Playwright of the Month has the spark of an idea for a play.
2. She invites a team of actors and a director to join her.
3. Her creative team + all 6 Brooklyn Generator writers come together on the first Tuesday of the month for an evening of discussion, stories and exercises all aimed at fueling the play that wants to be written.
4. The Playwright of the Month goes away for less-than-30 days (usually around 24 days:) and writes a brand new draft.
5. The final Sunday of the month we rehearse the piece for the very first time and then immediately perform it for you!
This particular piece sprung from my love/hate relationship with the "Self Help" world.
I'm so psyched to reunite with director Robert Ross Parker, who directed the World Premiere of my play BRANCHED in 2014 and couldn't feel luckier that these brilliant actors are lending me their time and talents.
I'll be back in early February with lots of cool news to share about projects coming in 2017. 'Til, then, I would LOVE to see you this Sunday 1/29 for STUNNING DISPLAYS OF PROWESS. All details below!
