Winter 2017

Here we are at the start of the new year already. With most of the commotion behind us, I am finding just a little bit more time to play with the dollies. I have recently partnered with a lady, Gail Brown, and together we have started some wonderful projects. She has been doing the tasks that I either can't do anymore physically or can't find the time to do and I have been adding finishing touches, taking pictures and listing the items for sale.

We recently finished and sold our first 21st Century Flapper Dolls (cubeb reproduction), reproduction Flapper Felt Suits, and several "rescued" small standard transition dolls (composition heads with hard plastic arms and shoe/feet).

I also revised the website so that it is easier for you to maneuver and find what you are looking for. Will be listing new items this week of January 23rd including more dolls, basket case dolls, and shoes so be sure you check back. I will always post updates on the facebook page, facebook.com/DollieBoudoir/. You do not have to be a facebook member to follow along on the page. As always, if you have something in mind, please don't hesitate to ask.

Boudoir Doll Identification
Sterling Boudoir Bed Doll Composition/Cloth body
ca. 1930's - early 1940's

Sterlings are more unique than other boudoir doll with head/breastplate and cloth bodies. The composition head and upper torso are one piece and the arms are stung. The bottom have of the body is cloth with cloth legs, cloth feet or composition shoe/feet. There were two styles of arms, those that had straight hands and those that had fancier hands. Because the arms are strung and not attached per se, they are more prone to be lost. Another challenge was that the arms have a tendency to crack and peel on the backs of the arms.

Faces are hand painted with very distinctive eyes, some with inset lashes some with painted lashes, red lips, rosy cheeks and the infamous "beauty" mark. Hair is usually mohair and can be simply fashioned or more elaborate with long side curls or coils.

There were many styles and themes of made to celebrate most holidays or other special events such as Halloween or Graduation.
