Volunteering Opportunities at Dance in Devon

Digital Volunteer:
We are currently looking for a Digital Volunteer to work with us on an exciting media campaign with a national broadcaster. If you have excellent social media skills, are imaginative and bold and think you can help us with our online networks please email administrator@danceindevon.org.uk for more information. Application deadline 13th February.  

Torbay Dance Volunteer:
Dance in Devon is working on a falls prevention project in Torbay in partnership with Torbay Culture Forum and health partners. We are looking for a volunteer to support our dance leaders deliver this programme. The project is likely to start in March and last for 6 months. Our ideal volunteer will be an older dance enthusiast, as part of the role will be to champion dance in later life and will be a role model to those coming to the sessions. U.Dance in North Devon
Thank you for all your interest in the U.Dance platform on 18th February, we have decided with our partners in North Devon to postpone the youth dance platform until later in the year. Dance in Devon has offered support to North Devon Theatres and the communities who value them so much. In the meantime, get behind the campaign to save North Devon Theatres on Facebook on the @savendtheatres page. A free live entertainment event is being hosted in support of the theatres on 11th February on Landmark Green in Ilfracombe. More details here

Dance for Children and Families at Dartington 
We would like to trial some dance sessions for children and families here at Dartington. If you are a dance leader and have an idea for a children / families session on Saturday mornings at Dartington Space, please get in touch with Kate: administrator@danceindevon.org.uk .

Stepping Out - Over 50s Dance Classes in Devon 
Our over 50s social dance classes are continuing across Devon. Come and have fun in a friendly environment, whilst learning a variety of social dance styles. A new class will start in Sidmouth on 4th February. See our website for details on all current classes.   

Clore Leadership Programme | Open Event
An Open Event for anyone interested in undertaking training with the Clore Leadership Programme is being held at The Bike Shed Theatre on 1st February. Dance in Devon's Director, Sue Smith, will be part of the panel discussing their experiences with the programme first hand, and answering your questions. Youth Dance Map 
We have now set up a Youth Dance Map on our Dance in Devon website which comprises of post-16 dance courses and youth dance groups / companies in Devon. If you run a youth dance group or company which is not already listed, please email details to administrator@danceindevon.org.uk to be added.

Candoco Dance Company | 25 Stories Project 
Dance in Devon's Director, Sue Smith, was one of the early dancers of Candoco. You can read her contribution to their 25 Stories Project here

U.Dance Regional Platform 
Congratulations to Devon based youth dance groups Ivybridge Dance Academy and Attik Youth, Dartington who are performing in the regional U.Dance platform hosted by Swindon Dance on 26th February. Book your tickets here. 

ContaKids Comes to Exeter
We are delighted and excited that ContaKids now have a base in the south west. Exeter is now the only place outside of London to offer ContaKids courses. ContaKids is a group that gather for fun, movement and partnering games aimed especially for an adult and child duo. More information about ContaKids and what they offer can be found here.

Clore Leadership Programme | Open Event 
An Open Event for anyone interested in undertaking training with the Clore Leadership Programme. Dance in Devon's Director, Sue Smith, will be part of the panel discussing their experiences with the programme first hand, and answering your questions. 

1st February 
Wendy Houstoun | Pact with Pointlessness, The House, Plymouth University
Acclaimed performer and choreographer Wendy Houstoun, returns to Plymouth in defiant form with new work, Pact With Pointlessness, a double act for one that mixes comedy, spoken word and performance.


4th February
Breathe Event | Pavilion Dance South West 
Pavilion Dance South West offers an annual day of dance and chat for dance artists working in health and wellbeing settings across the South West. It is a chance to connect with other similar-minded people, to feel part of a bigger ‘movement’ and to refresh yourself with new contacts and ideas to feed your work.


4th February
Devon Cultural Education Partnership Meeting 

Open, free seminar co-hosted by Daisi and MA Education: Creative Arts team, University of Exeter. This seminar is a chance to find out more about, and contribute to, the development of Devon’s Cultural Education Partnership (Devon CEP). 

9th - 11th February 
Matthew Bourne's Early Adventures | Exeter Northcott Theatre (pictured)
Matthew Bourne returns to his roots in Early Adventures, a programme of hit pieces that launched the career of ‘Britain’s favourite choreographer’ and saw the birth of the style, wit and sheer entertainment that his company New Adventures brought to Swan Lake, The Car Man, Edward Scissorhands and Sleeping Beauty.


9th February
Yorke Dance Project | Rewind Forward, Pavilion Dance South West
Yorke Dance Project is known for its imaginative programming of inspiring, world-class dance that spans the generations. Rewind Forward features Sea of Troubles, a rarely seen ballet inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet and originally created by one of the legends of 20th century ballet, Sir Kenneth MacMillan.


20th February
Exim Dance Company | Etch, Exeter Phoenix
A journey of remembrance through dance, Etch is an intimate exploration of memory; the things we remember and those we choose to forget. An enthralling and emotive performance which travels through layers of spoken word, movement and music.


22nd February
Hagit Yakira | Free Falling, The House, Plymouth University
Award-winning Hagit Yakira dance presents Free Falling, an open-hearted double bill of down-to-earth dance that’s sensual, striking and a beautiful respite from the hustle and bustle. 


26th February 
U.Dance Regional Festival | Wyvern Theatre, Swindon
Swindon Dance in Partnership with Pavilion Dance South West present a showcase of dance groups from the south west region.


3rd - 4th March 
Dance Consortium |Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, Theatre Royal Plymouth
Danza Contemporanea de Cuba was founded in 1959 and has since become the nation’s flagship contemporary dance troupe with a hybrid, hothouse style that is a pungent blend of Afro Caribbean rhythms, jazzy American modernism and inflections from European ballet.


6th March 
James Wilton Dance | Leviathan, Exeter Northcott Theatre
Multi award-winning choreographer James Wilton re-imagines Herman Melville’s seminal novel, Moby Dick. Featuring a cast of 7 and Wilton’s trademark blend of athletic dance, martial arts, capoeira and partner-work, Leviathan will have you on the edge of your seat.

Temporary Programme Producer Vacancy | Pavilion Dance South West
PDSW are seeking an exceptional individual, for an immediate start, to jump in and join the team in the planning and delivery of key events during their Spring/Summer 2017 season, and to support the operational logistics of the professional performance programme at their venue, Pavilion Dance.

Plymouth Dance | James Wilton Dance Intensive 
Plymouth Dance have arranged for James Wilton Dance to host an intensive for professional dancers and students in professional training. The intensive will be lead by James Wilton assisted by company dancer Sarah Jane Taylor.

Now Open | Applications for the Marie McCluskey Dancemakers Fund 
Marie McCluskey takes great pleasure in gifting a special fund to support the next generation of dance makers. Funds for this new award were raised from a collection by artists, participants, colleagues, staff and friends on Marie’s retirement in 2016.

Performer Audition Day for Youth Music Theatre in Plymouth 
Young people can audition in Plymouth to be part of YMT’s 2017 Summer Season where, if successful, you’ll be placed on a two/three-week project to create a brand new piece of music theatre with a team of theatre professionals.
