Greetings from FiberCell Systems and Welcome to the Winter 2017 Expressions Newsletter!

It’s cold and icy outside at both FiberCell locations but it’s a nice 37 degrees inside your incubators, so let’s forget about January and remember that opening day for baseball is less than 3 months away!

2016 was a most productive year for FiberCell and we are looking forward to 2017 with great anticipation!

KD Bio in Strasbourg, France is our new European stocking distributor.

Effective January 1, FiberCell Systems is most happy to assign KD Bio as our exclusive distributor in the European Union and UK. Tony Rutt (pictured here), president of KD Bio comes to us with extensive experience in cell culture and bioassays, with particular strength in 3-D cell culture. KD Bio will be our stocking distributor in the EU and is your direct link to FiberCell Systems Inc. in Europe. We are pleased to be able to provide our European customers with the same service and support that FiberCell Systems is known for in the US.

KD Bio can be found here: www.kdbio.com

FiberCell Systems was designated a manufacturing partner and industry representative for the NIIMBL program, a $70 million grant from NIST to the University of Delaware.

The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals is a consortium put in place to accelerate innovation in all aspects of biologics manufacturing and to ensure American leadership in biotechnology. FiberCell Systems will be working with thought leaders in academia and industry to develop new ideas and platforms for the biopharmaceutical and cell therapy industries.

FiberCell Laboratories has expanded its capabilities for contract production and research.

Let us express your recombinant protein, monoclonal antibody, exosomes or other cell secreted product in our hollow fiber bioreactors using our protein-free, chemically defined, animal component free, cGMP compliant medium. An interesting result of our work is the finding that many cell types, including some primary cells, cultured in the in vivo like cell culture conditions of the hollow fiber bioreactor do not expand or proliferate like in flask culture. No passaging is required. This is specifically the case for MSC. We can maintain in culture these cells for many months, collecting exosomes or other secreted products without contamination from exogenous exosomes found in serum. No proliferation also means the cells do not differentiate.

Hollow fiber is an ideal method for the production of large numbers of exosomes, potentially for clinical applications.  Here is a photo of some cells that have been in the cartridge for 2.5 months and the 3-D structures they form over time.
