Finding Words

I'm continuing to mull over how to title these works.  I heard from a reader who had a strong positive response to a specific painting and said the reason would probably only make sense to him.  I completely get that!  I've been thinking I should not give these pieces specific titles, so as not to influence the personal response of the viewer.  However, art is also a way to communicate ideas, so I'm a little on the fence about it. Also, I love titles, even though choosing the right one is often difficult.

I *think* people see the painting first and then the title.  If you loved a piece but didn't relate to the title, would it affect your decision to purchase or not?  Does the title matter to you?  Titles matter to me, but they don't to everybody.  Does the title deepen your understanding and appreciation of the piece, or do you ignore it?

I've tentatively titled the three pieces below... as with my landscapes, the paintings came first, then the titles.  Function follows form (because I've always been a bit of a rebel!)  In fact, I took the first idea, rotated it, and re-interpreted it... and then did it again.  As you can see from the titles, the three final pieces spoke very differently to me.  I'd love to know your thoughts, positive/negative/indifferent!

Warmest regards,

Rachel

P.S.  In case you were curious, last night's dinner was tandoori chicken, curried tofu (YUM!!!), saffron rice w/raisins and baked cauliflower w/red peppers, deliciously prepared in some mysterious sauce.  And bread & butter, of course.  .... and chocolate banana cake w/cream cheese frosting.  HEllo.
