The ANBU team is incredibly excited to start our Video Series and share with y'all the incredible work we do and the wonderful spirits we come into contact with daily because of ANBU. It's been a gift, a present that continues to nourish our souls.

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for all the support we received at our ANBU Video Launch and Community Gathering. Huge shout-out to all our community sponsors that contributed to the success of this event. We're also fortunate to hold love for all the fabulous folks that chose to support us anonymously.

ANBU is conducting a needs assessment that we started to disperse at our launch event. For those of you that did not get the chance to fill it out and are interested, you can do so here in English or Tamil.

The beginning of our series - It Happens!

This is an initiative to continue raising awareness on childhood sexual abuse in the Tamil community. The video series will be discussing the intersectional layers that impact survivors and their loved ones. Monthly releases will have various speakers that will tap into the complexity of this trauma, the lifelong impact, post-traumatic growth and the chaotic beauty of healing.

In our mother tongue - Tamil.
Some wonderful captures of the event by Glow Studio Photography! Feel free to check out more pictures here.
The ANBU book was compiled by one of our stars, Jessica Thyriar. Buy your copy today by sending us an email at ask@anbu.ca. Only $20, this book depicts the journey of five individuals impacted by childhood sexual abuse and their narratives of those experiences.
Event Testimonials:

"I have never been so moved by an event. I have also never felt my voice touch so many souls the way it did at ANBU's Video Launch. The energy in the room was truly inspiring, and I am proud to have been a part of it!"

"Originally I attended ANBU’s video launch event to support a friend who serves on the board. Little did I know that I’d be sitting through one of the most heart-wrenching and thought provoking experiences of my life. As a teacher, I thought I already knew my share of information on the topic of child sexual abuse but jeez, was I wrong. ANBU’s event was not just a tear-jerking one but was also more than informative. The intersectional approach, specifically on Tamils, made me realize that those in our community belong to marginalized identities and are disproportionately affected by sexual abuse. I think ANBU’s initiative is bold and essential in order to provide different forms of support and accommodations to meet the substantial needs of our people. We need awareness on the topic and I am more than thrilled to know such an organization now exists. I am excited to see what ANBU has up their sleeves and look forward to watching this organization grow!"

"This past Friday night I had the opportunity to attend Abuse Never Become Us(ANBU)'s Video Launch and Community Gathering. The event was put together by ANBU's Board Members and Supporters. The event was very welcoming, powerful and filled with lots of emotions. It was great to see many individuals from the Tamil community come together in solidarity to support ANBU. I also had the opportunity to purchase a book of powerful survivors narratives. Shout out to all these wonderful board members and supporters of ANBU for organizing a space to help folks that experienced a traumatic childhood and a space to listen and spread ANBU(love) within our Tamil community. I'm looking forward to viewing more video series and attending many more events supporting ANBU."

"A wonderful group of youth creating spaces that give voices to Tamil people who have gone through childhood sexual abuse. It was a great turnout at York University. A pioneering initiative - bold, inclusive, creative and inspiring. Kudos to them and the entire team at ANBU!"
If you are a survivor or the loved one of someone that has been impacted by childhood sexual abuse and want support, give us a shout! If you want to share your story, send us a message and we would love to amplify your voice. Anonymous entries of all sorts are welcomed too.
