I was reminded recently of a well-known parable which many people will already know but I thought it worth sharing, once again.
A terrible storm arrived in a town and the town was flooded. A devotee of God climbed on to the roof of his house, despite evacuation warnings, saying to himself “I trust God and God will save me and send me a miracle”. His neighbours came by and said, "we have room in our car for you, please join us", and the man declined saying, “No, I have faith that God will save me” and with that the car left without him. Then, sometime later a man paddled by in a boat. “Jump in”, he said, “the waters are rising dangerously.” Still, the devotee said, “No, I have faith that God is going to save me and send me a miracle.” By this time, the waters were nearing the roof of his house where he was standing. A helicopter flew by and dropped a rope ladder down to him. “Climb up before it is too late”, the rescuer shouted from the helicopter. “No”, shouted the man with water starting to cover the roof of his house, “I have faith that God is going to send me a miracle and save me.” Before long, the house was under water, the man swept away and drowned. When he got to heaven, the man confronted God and said, “God, why did you not save me, I had faith in you?” God replied, “Not saved you? I sent you a car, a boat and a helicopter! What more did you want?”
This wonderful parable serves to show us that, sometimes, the miracle we are looking for is right in front of us. God/Source/Spirit is in everything and sometimes we are so fixated on a particular outcome that we lose sight of the miracle that is taking place right in front of us if we could just shift our perspective and drop our expectations. Something to ponder on.
