Health Alert

We are having a high volume of students and staff experiencing various illnesses this winter.  From what I hear from others, "stuff is going around" everywhere!  Strep Throat in particular seems to be pretty bad--and it is not presenting with a sore throat.  If your child is experiencing a lingering stomach bug/fever, you may want to consider getting tested for Strep.  Undiagnosed strep throat can lead to more serious illnesses.

In addition, please make sure to encourage students to keep hands washed, don't share anything like water bottles, food, etc that might pass germs, and cover mouths when coughing or sneezing.  If your child is sick, please do not send them to school.  We will be working diligently to keep rooms cleaned and disinfected here at the school.

Let's pray that everyone can get healthy and stay healthy!

A Note from Mr. Claes...

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
-Proverbs 3:5-6

As we get into this new year, I feel like God is teaching me a lot about trust.  I read a devotional that pointed out our human struggle with trust.  God is trustworthy, and when we put our faith and trust in Him and His character, we can truly experience peace.

As we have worked through the many facets of the school transition, we have had many opportunities to trust God.  Each time I start to get overwhelmed with the many details to be worked out, God reminds me to surrender to Him and trust Him.  As things progress, He has proved himself faithful at every turn, and I am getting more excited about the future.

Relocation Update

There isn't a lot of new information in the last 3 weeks, but a few substantial things have happened.  The biggest thing is that we met with Church of the Saviour and Mel Felty, our architect.  We are excited about the plans to utilize the existing church facility for the school.  I'm happy to report that we will not need modular units to accomodate our current program needs!  We are working with a contractor now and anticipate construction to begin shortly.  Please join us in praying that everything will go smoothly and that God will provide the funds for the construction.

This year's Legacy Auction will take place on Saturday, February 25, at Church of the Saviour.

We have selected the theme of "Turning the Page" for this year's auction.  While this obviously applies to the upcoming transition for the school, it also capitalizes on the fact that we will have a lot of books in the auction this year.

The goal of the auction committee is to have "something for everyone" at the auction.  There will be toys, vacation packages, home decor, lawn and garden equipment, sports tickets, and rare memorabilia to name a few of the types of things we will have.

We are continuing to collect items for the class baskets.  We would like to have the majority of these items collected by this Friday, 1/27,  but items can trickle in next week also.  View your class' theme by clicking here.

Be on the lookout for an auction packet to come home next week.  The packet will include postcard invitations for you to distribute, drawing tickets for a chest freezer and half a hog, and information on opportunities to help with the event.

The auction is a major event for the school, and the success of the auction is dependent on the support of our school family.  We rely on events like the auction to help keep our tuition affordable.

Fundraising Update

Although the auction is typcially our largest fundraiser, we do a few other things throughout the year to help generate funds for the school.  We try to be sensitive and limit our fundraising efforts to things that are effective.  This year, we added the Christmas Tree sales to our fundraising efforts.  We have also done the "dine to donate" events.  Those are primarily scheduled to encourage school spirit and fellowship, but also provide funds for the school.  Here is an overview of the fundraising efforts so far this year:

Eagle Card:  Around $23,000
Bob Evans:  Around $150
Christmas Tree Sales:  Around $3,000
Chipotle:  Around $550

We appreciate the families that participate and support these efforts.  We will have a family fun night at Applebees during the 3rd nine weeks and one at Five Guys during the 4th nine weeks.

Operation Evergreen

Back in the fall, students made Christmas tree ornaments that were sent to troops overseas along with Christmas trees from Ohio tree farms.  We have received a handfull of thank you messages from soldiers expressing their gratitude for the ornaments.  Here are some quotes from the messages we have received:

"My soldiers and I would like to thank you for your support over the holidays."

"Today I received a wonderful Christmas reindeer made by Coleman Hixenbaugh. They are beautiful and made with so much love.  Thank you, thank you.  We appreciate all your support and love from home."

It is nice to know that these ornaments reached their destination and were deeply appreciated.  Great job, kids!

Letters of Intent

Letters of intent for the 2017-2018 school year were included with 2nd quarter report cards.  Although the letter of intent does not replace the enrollment process, it helps us with planning and getting an idea of what class sizes we will have.  If you have not returned the letter of intent, please do so by Wednesday, February 1.  A copy can be viewed by clicking here.
