NEW Updated SAC Disability Tax Credit Certificate Tip Sheets!


As we approach the 2016 tax season, SAC is pleased to present updated versions of our speech-language pathology and audiology Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Certificate Tip Sheets.

These DTC Tip Sheets are designed to assist speech-language pathologists and audiologists in completing DTC certificate forms.

The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit for Canadians with severe and prolonged impairments in physical or mental functions. To apply, an individual or their legal representative, along with a medical practitioner, must fill out the DTC Certificate Form T2201 and submit the form to the Canada Revenue Agency.

Meet SAC's New Staff Members! 

We are pleased to introduce two new staff members: Meredith Wright, PhD, S-LP, Reg. CASLPO is SAC’s Director of Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Health Assistants and Lauren Mann is SAC’s Manager of Exams and Clinical Certification.
Meredith Wright, PhD, S-LP, Reg. CASLPO
Director of Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Health Assistants
Meredith Wright comes to SAC with a wealth of experience and career that has spanned over thirty years. After completing her PhD at the University of Queensland in Australia, Meredith held faculty, clinical and research positions in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Most recently, Meredith was the Chief of Speech-Language Pathology at the Ottawa Hospital. In her role at the Ottawa Hospital, she provided leadership in the advancement of the entire range of speech-language pathology care, knowledge, research and education and was responsible for maintaining practice standards. She also worked with clinical staff to successfully advocate for expanded services for patients with dysphagia as a result of head and neck cancer and developed policies and procedures to support clinical practice with this particular patient group. In addition, she conducted research in the area of knowledge translation and implementation in speech-language pathology. As SAC’s Director of Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Health Assistant’s, Meredith will provide leadership and be a key resource for both S-LPs and communication health assistants.

Lauren Mann 
Manager of Exams and Clinical Certification 
As SAC’s Manager of Exams and Clinical Certification, Lauren Mann will oversee the development and administration of the SAC Clinical Certification Exams and the clinical certification program. Lauren excels at project management and has extensive experience working in the non-profit sector. Prior to joining SAC, Lauren was the Affiliates Manager at the Canadian Cardiovascular Society where she worked closely with volunteer boards on policy development, managed various education initiatives and oversaw special projects and budgets. Lauren has a BSc in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa as well as diploma in project management from Algonquin College. In her spare time, Lauren is a champion curler having most recently secured the 2017 Quebec Scotties crown!

Thank you to all SAC members and associates who have visited the Don't Tax My Health Benefits website to voice their concerns about the possible tax on employer-sponsored health benefits. Since the campaign website was launched, over 130,000 emails have been sent to MPs and to the Minister of Finance regarding this important issue.

If you have not already, we strongly encourage you to visit the campaign website and share this information with your patients/clients as well as with your friends and family.
