Notice of Nondiscrimination Strengthens University Community

Maintaining an educational and work environment where all members of the University community can thrive is essential to the University of Pittsburgh's mission. This mission is advanced through the University's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity for all.

One pillar of the University's commitment to social justice is its prohibition against discrimination in the education and work environments. The Staff Association Council encourages the Pitt community to read the University's Notice of Nondiscrimination and familiarize themselves on where to report incidents of discrimination.

For complete details, please visit the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Pitt Pantry provides students greater access to healthy food options

The Staff Association Council's 2016 fall food drive benefited the Pitt Pantry, located at Bellefield Presbyterian Church in Oakland, and helped to stock the shelves in preparation for returning students following winter break. Participants contributed over 500 lbs of food stuffs and personal care items, supplemented by $100 in monetary donations!

The drive also helped to increase donors understanding of the Pitt Pantry, it's shoppers, and the disconnect between university students and nutritious, affordable food and personal care items.

Public Source, a non-profit Pennsylvania investigative news organization, published a story ("Hunger among college students: Food pantries expand on Pittsburgh campuses") last December describing the expanding presence and role of food pantries on campuses across Pittsburgh.

To learn more about the Pitt Pantry, visit their website, contact the Office of PittServes in the William Pitt Union, or follow them on social media @PittPantry and @PittServes.

Meet Featured SAC Member Caitlin Mathis

Caitlin Mathis
is the Department Administrator in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. She is responsible for the budget, payroll (student and faculty appointments), and general office administration (i.e. lots of other little responsibilities). Caitlin has worked at Pitt for almost four years.

Her involvement with SAC: Caitlin joined the Operations Committee.  She says, “While I found that all of the committees are doing important and interesting work, I think Operations fits with my skills and background the best.” She has been a member of SAC since August 2016.

Why did she join SAC?  Caitlin says, “I'd like to be more involved in the Pitt community and contribute to the staff's ‘voice'. Although I wasn't a student at Pitt, my family has been a part of the campus in one capacity or another for as long as I can remember.  I'm also looking forward to meeting more staff outside of my area.”  She also says, “Everyone has been very welcoming. It's great to go to meetings where a real sense of camaraderie and purpose can be felt.”

What is Caitlin’s vision on how SAC can impact the University of Pittsburgh?  Caitlin says, “My background is in politics (I worked for a congressman and on a couple of campaigns before coming to Pitt). While I saw how political and institutional change can be slow-moving, I also saw how a vocal and active constituency is key to that change. By working with administration, faculty, and students, I think we can continue to make real strides for the Pitt staff and campus as a whole.”

Fun Facts about Caitlin: She says, “I started running races a few years ago and recently achieved some personal milestones. I placed in the top 25 in this year's Pittsburgh half marathon and have a busy fall race season coming up (including my third half marathon).  I sometimes go for runs straight from the office after work - you may have seen me!  I try to take a trip abroad at least once a year. I am also a board member of the University of Michigan alumni group in Pittsburgh.”
