First and Second Place Winners

The Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the 2017 Angela Schuster Svendsen Memorial Young Musician Competition to be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

The Young Musician Competition is designed to encourage and support young artists in the North Central Washington counties of Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan. This year there will be two divisions. The competitive division is for students entering the 10th through 12th grade in the fall of 2017. Students entering grades 7-9 in the fall of 2017 may participate in the non-competitive division.

Awards will be given in the competitive division. The First Place award will consist of $1,000 cash, a commemorative plaque and the opportunity to perform as a guest soloist with the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 2017. The Second Place award will consist of $500 cash, a commemorative plaque and the opportunity to perform as a soloist at a Chamber Music Soiree during the Symphony’s 2017‐18 season. Participants in both divisions will receive written adjudicator feedback following the competition and may be invited to perform at a symphony event in the 2017-18 season.

Musicians will find the application form and Official Rules and Regulations online at wenatcheesymphony.org. The application form, $25 entry fee and music teacher recommendation form must all be submitted to the Symphony by March 11, 2017. By March 18, all entrants will be notified of the competition venue and schedule.

In its 70th season, the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra is composed of local musicians whose purpose is to culturally enrich the communities of North Central Washington through music performance, outreach and education.
