Millbrook Library Community Survey


The Board of Trustees & Staff of the Millbrook Library would like your input on the future of our library. The Healing Art of Qigong
Fridays at 1:30 pm

Led by instructor Cris Caivano, Qigong is a system of healing and energy medicine from China that uses breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy. Qigong practice promotes health, vitality and peace of mind. Beginners are welcome.

Healing Democracy Action Circle
Wednesday, February 15 at 6 pm
 
The Millbrook Library is hosting a series of non – partisan conversations where we will engage with our differences in a new way in order to build relationships and help us understand each other in more compassionate ways.  The sessions are facilitated by Cat Greenstreet a retired educator and experienced facilitator and have been prepared by The Center for Courage and Renewal.
During these sessions we will practice:
  • Listening first with an open mind
  • Learning new ways of dealing with tension in life, in more giving ways
  • Exploring difficult issues in a respectful way
  • Being with others from this community who value civic dialogue.

Indian Cooking with Kamini

Gallery Reception & Artist Talk
Friday, February 17 from 4-6 pm


Join us on Friday, February 17 for a Gallery Reception from 4 pm to 6 pm and artist talk at 5 pm by February Gallery artist Jeffery L. Neumann.

Jeffrey L. Neumann has been painting scenes of the post-war American landscape for over 30 years, and has won numerous awards for both his oil and watercolor work. Neumann is a Cedar Rapids, IA native who grew up in New Mexico. He attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1973-74 and graduated from Springfield College with a B.S. in Fine Art in 1981.  His work is represented in numerous corporate and private collections including: Fleet Bank, Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co., WWLP Television, WGGB Television, Baystate Medical Center, United States Congressional Offices and The City of Springfield, MA.

The Millbrook Library is excited to once again be hosting the Millbrook Arts Group Winter Concert Series in January, February and March 2017. This series is generously sponsored by the Millbrook Arts Group and the Catskill Jazz Factory.

The second concert will be held on Saturday, February 25: Liberating the Bird: Sarah Elizabeth Charles sings the poetry of Maya Angelou.

Or just stop in, browse our collection, play in our play space and more.
Play Space for Tots
Ages 1-5 years
Tuesdays & Thursdays 11:15 am-12 pm
Drop-in program: no registration required
 
Open-ended playtime for young children and their caregivers.  Blocks, puzzles, duplos,  toys, puppets and dolls are all available for children to explore and enjoy. Children must be supervised by their parent/caregiver.   
  Please plan to arrive no earlier than 11 am, as story time will be in session until then.
 
Valentine Crafts Evening

Chill with friends after school at the Teen Café.  There will be Wii games, board games, music, Wi-Fi, FOOD, fun!  The Teen Café is in the Community Room downstairs in the Library.
Teen Café will meet one Friday a month. 
LEGO Free Play
ages 4 and up

Come with friends or make new ones building with LEGOs.
You supply the creativity, we’ll supply the LEGOs. Registration is required.

Millbrook Library has its own Minecraft server! Minecraft is a game in which kids learn the basics of play, coding and architecture, in-game engineering, game design and more while having fun!

Bring your friends, your creativity and come and join us for a fun, relaxing evening of coloring for adults. Coloring sheets and colored pencils will be provided, along with soothing music and light refreshments.

Friends of the Millbrook Library

Book Sale Information
Book sale donations will be accepted on Saturday, February 4 & 18 from 11 am to 2 pm in the Bennett Room. Too busy to bring donations to the Library? A member of the Friends will come to your home to help you cull your book collection for donations to their on-going Book Sale. All donations are tax-deductible and benefit various programming needs at the Library. For more information or to arrange an appointment, please contact friends@millbrooklibrary.org
 
Services for Homebound Residents
Do you know someone in the Village of Millbrook or the Towns of Washington or Union Vale who would love to borrow books, magazines, or audiobooks, but can't get to the library due to a medical or physical limitation? Thanks to the Friends of the Millbrook Library, help is now available! Call the library and ask for information about the Friends' Homebound Library Service. A "new friend" will be in touch soon and start bringing the treasures of our library to their door for free!

Ed Towsley,  MISN's NY State of Health Certified Navigator, will be available to enroll and provide Health Insurance Literacy information.  Ed is also an expert in Medicare and can assist consumers 65 years old and older. Call for more information.
A representative from the Dutchess County Community Action Partnership will be at the Library on Mondays & Tuesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

The Millbrook Library offers ZoomText Software,  which allows a computer’s display to be magnified for easier viewing of webpages, emails, Microsoft Office documents and more! We are also now able to assist our patrons in the ordering of talking books and listening devices from the New York State Talking Book & Braille Library. Call for more information.
