Background on Market@theSheds:

Market@theSheds is the Capital’s celebration of Art, Food, Design and Music, aimed at showcasing the talents and products of people residing in Tshwane. Compared to Arts on Main, the Neighbourgoods Market in Johannesburg and Biscuit Mill market in Cape Town, it boasts a unique local flavour and offering, with popular, varied live music performances.

Described as an African urban experience, it merges the best of city markets with the flavours of South Africa’s Capital, with local entrepreneurs, designers, artists and musicians forming the bulk of the exhibition. Inspired by the beauty and realness of the city and its people, the market aims to provide a platform for local economic and cultural development in the city. For some, the market is merely a welcome surprise, but for many more, it is a proud display of the People City’s creative offering.

The atmospheric ambiance draws a diverse group of people from all walks of life: fashionistas, art lovers, foodies, musicians, shopaholics, tourists, explorers, trendsetters and socialites of all ages. Visitors like to hang out with friends or family and enjoy gourmet coffee, craft beer, fine wines, cocktails, gourmet food, laid-back music, design, fashion, art and interesting people.

All in all, there are between 50 and 60 stands at the market with a pop up art exhibition and an open stage where local artists create a laid-back, acoustic, jazzy atmosphere. It is located at 012central, the trendy multi-space precinct in the CBD, with the African Beer Emporium as its neighbour.

The Market attracts 1000 - 2500 people per event. It takes place from 11h00 to 18h00 on the last Saturday of every month. Special edition pop-up markets happen in between. There is an entrance fee of R30 from 11 to 13h00 and R50 after 13h00 (except on special occassions). (Kids, vespa riders and cyclists have free access).

The market drives the following objectives:

1. To create a highly, sought-after arts and culture attraction in the inner city of Pretoria
2. To provide a platform for the artists, designers, musicians and crafts people of the city, to showcase their talents and further their exposure.
3. To provide a platform for local entrepreneurs linked to design, art, music, fashion and crafts to showcase their goods and get exposure to bigger business opportunities.
4. To drive economic development by providing design, art, music, fashion and craft entrepreneurs with the necessary training and development opportunities to become working businesses boosting economic growth in the city.
5. To be agents/facilitators for selected musicians, artists, designers and crafts people in the city, providing opportunities for growth nationally and internationally

Please be in contact if you would like to know more. We welcome the opportunity to work with embassies to showcase countries and cultures represented in South Africa.
