MANOR HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Year 10 discovering the bizarre properties of non-Newtonian fluids in Physics today.

Message from the Head

A busy week has been enjoyed by all at Manor House with many learning activities and successes shared through our Twitter feed.

Congratulations to all girls who sat the entrance examinations or who applied for scholarships. The competition for scholarships was fierce and all girls have now been informed about the outcome of their applications.

The highlight of the week for Year 6 was their visit to the O2 for the Young Voices event which from the photographs, looked like a fantastic evening.  Despite a number of tired faces on Wednesday morning, the enormity of the experience sounded unforgettable!  Thank you to Mrs Harman, Mrs Lewis, Mrs Hilleard and Mrs Redward for taking the girls and to Mrs Quirk for organising the parent transport.

Deputy Headteacher interviews have taken place this week and shortlisted candidates will be called back next week for further assessments.  I am hopeful that we will be in a position to appoint to this important role.  In the meantime, the SLT are sharing the responsibilities.

Should your daughter have an issue with her iPad, please can she see Ms van Dyk in the first instance to see if it can easily be resolved.

School Council have raised a concern about ‘pick up’ and asked me to remind parents to move on and drive around the loop and re-join the queue if your daughter is not already waiting.  Please remember to proceed with care and drive within the speed limits when in the school grounds.

Despite the snow, the Tennis Academy started very well and is oversubscribed.  The coaches are also offering a Tennis Camp during February half term.  Please follow this link.  If you are not off skiing but would still like to be active then the camp is open to all.

Ms Tracey Fantham.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids 2017

Once again we will be taking part in the Sainsbury’s Active Kids campaign.  The promotion runs from Wednesday 25 January.  You will receive one voucher for every £10 you spend at Sainsburys.  Please collect as many vouchers as you can and post them in the collection box in the Entrance Hall.

School Reports and Letters Home
Just a reminder that all correspondence and attachments sent via email from Manor House School, along with your daughter’s school reports, is uploaded online to our parent portal, Schoolbase.  To view these, please log in to your Schoolbase account here.  Mr Knowles will have previously sent your username and password to you just before the start of this academic year in August and will be sending these out again at the beginning of next week.  Click on ‘Letters & School Reports,’ on the left hand side under the title 'Filters' and then choose ‘Current Academic Year’.

Year 6 At The O2

The Young Voices concert is the largest children’s choir in the world and on Tuesday evening 7,295 primary school aged children joined together to sing their hearts out.  They sang songs such as: Birdhouse in your Soul and Stronger Together, folk songs from Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales and of course, the ever popular Pop Medley.  It was a truly magnificent sight to see all the young children singing and dancing with torch lights shining like little stars in the night sky.  Although it was a long and exhausting day, the girls certainly enjoyed themselves and all of the teachers were extremely proud of each and every one of them.  They were excellent ambassadors for Manor House School.

“It was an amazing experience to sing with many other children and with your friends.  It will be an experience that I will never forget.”  Emme.

“It was awesome to be dancing as much as you liked.  It was great to be able to express yourself and sing and dance the night away.”  Ella S and Mila P-M.

“It was a lovely evening to enjoy with my friends and one of my first big events at Manor House.” Alisha.

“It was cool to see all the acts on stage from such a high distance and to meet Andy, from the dance group, Urban Strides." Matilda.

“It was nice to see everyone having a great time and to be able to dance as much as I liked with my friends.”  Harriet F.

There will be tea and coffee provided and we should be finished by 5.00pm.  Thank you to everyone who has provided a copy of their passport information to Mrs Evans already.
S11 GCSE Art Trip
Will be visiting several London art galleries on Friday 3 February.  Travel will be by train.  The girls should meet Mrs Williams and Mrs Parsons at Effingham Junction Station at 8.45am.  We will be travelling on a group train ticket.  The cost of the train ticket will be added to the end of term bill.  We will return to school at the end of the day.  A packed lunch will be provided but the girls may like to bring some money for extra refreshments and postcards.  They will also need their sketchbooks, pencils and cameras.  This visit forms part of their preparatory studies work for the final GCSE examination.
