The newsletter for Kiwanis Club of Asheville
Charter established August 11, 1919 Asheville, NC
The Asheville Kiwanis Club meets for lunch, a business meeting and a guest speaker from 12-1:30pm each Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, off Merrimon Ave near downtown.
Begin thinking about getting sponsors for our race on May 21st. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year we made over $11,000. Let's make it a goal to make at least $15,000 this year!
Talk to people about Kiwanis and invite them to lunch and a meeting.
Dale recently had a fall with fractures He is in rehab at Deerfield and is good spirits.
Our speaker was Phil Desenne, the owner and head brewer at Turgua Brewing Company. He recently moved to the area from Boston where he taught at Harvard in the area of educational technology. He considers himself a "technobrewer" and has been brewing beer for 30 years. Turgua is a farmhouse brewery in a small garage on 5 acres in the Fairview area. He shared with us about the work involved in getting it started and how he is bringing the community together by using local products and farmers. Some of the flavors he will be using in his beers include melon, chanterelle mushrooms, sweet peppers, purple yams and pumpkin. He hopes to open his brewery in February.
