NCSPA Board Names New Leadership

Last week, NCSPA directors elected new officers and executive committee for the board. John Fleming, of Scotland Neck, NC, was elected President of the board of directors. Also, one new director was elected and seven directors were re-elected for their second term. See our new leadership and where we are headed in 2017!

2016 Yields- Statewide & Contest Winners

Field Report 1/18/17: Although 2016 brought some rough weather to many parts of the state, some impressive yields still showed up. Based on the latest NCDA statistics, the statewide average yield was 35 bushels/acre, up from 32 bushels/acre last year. And although acreage was down from last year, total production was actually up 5% to 58.1 million bushels. See the winners of the highest yields and most efficient yields from across the state!

For soybean farmers wanting to know more about their customers beyond the elevator, and the soy checkoff’s role in marketing U.S. soy, the United Soybean Board invites them to participate in the See for Yourself program. Perdue Named Secretary of Agriculture

The North Carolina Soybean Producers Association welcomes the nomination of former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue to serve as secretary of agriculture, leading the USDA. Perdue was a partner in a grain elevator business with locations in Georgia and South Carolina, and is a past president of the Southeastern Grain & Feed Association, with headquarters in Raleigh. “The secretary of agriculture and the USDA plays a key role in addressing the challenges faced by farmers,” said NCSPA president John Fleming. Perdue is the first southerner nominated for secretary of agriculture in more than two decades.

Adopt Only Practices that Add to Your Bottom Line

Field Report 1/11/17: Looking for inputs that will increase your yields and your bottom line, is an essential component of farming, but it’s important not to get so caught up chasing that “one thing” that will make a difference that we forget the fundamental concepts of agronomy. When selecting products and practices for the coming year remember to question everything, study success, and only adopt practices that add to your bottom line.
